Cuttings

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

This picture was taken last week. These are the cuttings I received from Arlene, tiG, Eric, and MSJen. They are all doing great and can't wait to see these babies all grown up next summer.A big thank you to you all and also to Glory and Calalily whose cuttings were'nt here in time for the picture. Without the generousity of you kind people I would'nt have a one Brug. Next year I will be able to share also thanks to you who shared with me.
PS. These are good ole USA legal Brugs. :)

wow! you're doing a fabulous job there!! Everything looks really good. What is that light? and where can I get one?

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

tiG, It's a HydroFarm light and DH got it for me. I'm not sure where he got it. He brought it home from work one day as a surprise for my Brug babies. Don't know if he bought it from someone at work or ordered it and had it delivered at work.I'll ask him in the morning since he's sleeping now and let you know.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Their lights are nice. They have all kinds of different things. We saw their display at a trade show.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

thank you dear. I've seen that name before and I'm going to have to get more lights, so might check into this.

Snow, looking great. Are you using a 1000 watt halide bulb in the light. Brugs just love those lights.

FSH, TX

Glad to see them all so healthy this time of year. Thinking I must get 1000 watt halide bulbs for every room in the house....Great job indeed SnowHermit.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

brugcrazy, I'm using a 400 watt Agrosun Halide bulb in it. It's making them grow about an inch a week. Hope they don't get too big before I can put them in the greenhouse. LOL
tiG, There's a website for the lights. Just go to:
www.hydrofarm.com and it gives you all the info. I'll e-mail you with the supplier closest to you.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

wow - talk about green with envy.....I will have go give this some serious thought!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

they've very expensive, but then they do cover a 5' x 7' area. Will have to stick with the grow lights for this year, maybe next year I'll hit the lottery.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

I use full spectrum lights that work very well. I use them for the plants and the birds. You can get them at WalMart and I can"t remember but I think they are around $7 or $8 dollars per bulb.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

that's what I use, but I need the longer ones, and can't find them.

(Zone 6a)

I just use regular cheap fluorescent shop bulbs.....work just as well as the grow bulbs for me....so far anyway.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

They look good, Snow, you'll have a good jump for warmer weather.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

That's what I'm hoping Arlene. I would just love to see them all in bloom next summer.

FSH, TX

Okay, How many of these so called Brug addicts have Brugs linning their kitchen, bathroom, bedroom floors, etc. I know I have em every which where I can place them. I figure its much better to lose a few inches due to lack of sunlight or water than to have them die back a few feet by the 2-6 days of freeze we get here typically. And how many are still trying to pollinate flowers in the middle of the night with a flashlight dangling out of your mouth to leave your hands free? Don't you hate it when the drool starts running off the end of the flashlight?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Brugman, lol, probably more of us than will admit it!!!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

The only place mine are NOT,is in the kitchen,DH put his foot down there! But there are cuttings rooting in the kitchen window.....opps ,so I have them in every room. But there is one thing I don't understand.I put some of the brugs in my sons old bedroom,it has a north and a east facing windows. They were mostly ones I cut back hard. Those son-of-a-guns are growing so well, look so much better than the ones in the south facing window,I'm thinking of sending them all up there.I was planning on setting up some floresent lights ,but now I might think twice.....

Snow, you have the green thumb Great Job. You'll have a forest come spring. Annie

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Geez, I think Brugman has been peeking in at me, How else would he know about the drool? I thought I was safe and nobody saw me! I was also sitting on the floor because it hurt too bad to stoop down. I'm all better now (well, much better, it doesn't hurt to walk)and will be out there pollinating again today. I'm almost wishing they would quit blooming so I can get a break from this obsession. I tried to leave them alone, even cut the tips out so they would quit blooming. Didn't work, they are sending out side shoots that have more buds on them!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

girl, what are you feeding those things?? I too have brugs in every room, including both bathrooms and the laundry room. Have the most in here though, probably 100 not counting seedlings in front of my computer with all the lights.

FSH, TX

The sad thing is...were all only telling half the truth. We aren't telling about all the brugmansia we left outside to overwinter. But to get that early start on seed production and flowers...thats what we all strive for. I can only imagine how many seeds I am going to have from my HG's as I did't have any this big last year when I planted in the ground. Culebra's I expect to bear many a lb of seed as well for me-but much less than they would have as several of you kept talking me out of my Culebra's. Sadly, I am down to just 3 Culebra's for seed production.

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

Well I can honestly say I have no brugs in the house not even in the lanai. I do start my seeds there. I guess I am lucky not much to move

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I have brugs in the computer room, livingroom on the bay window ledge and the floor, on the kitchen table, and on a huge table in the familyroom. Also have ten big ones that are dormant for the winter in the garage. I don't have nearly as many as a lot of you do, but those of us in the northern states are stuck with them under these conditions for several months. I want my house back!! Bring on spring and soon!!

I have a couple hundred plants and seedlings in the greenhouse, 6 or so large cut back ones in the wine cellar, one in the livingroom( was blooming until the other day), in the bathroom, in the ground outside, under the deck outside.

Hampstead, NC(Zone 8a)

Jees and I thought I was bad with my 50 or so! Tomorrow all the chairs around the table will have to be rearranged because the plants are in the way. Oblambert, the rootings you sent me are now used to direct sun and are doing fine. Sorry I didn't let you know before. Sadly, the two cuttings you sent didn't make it, but the good news is, my FP spurt seeds out of the pod. I know this is a common variety, but they are my first babies. Happy Holidays to all.

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Wow, you all seem to have so many, and seem to know so much about them. I just started growing them. I have a few cuttings that I received from trades and a yellow one that I got last year but don't know what kind it is. The store just had it marked yellow. I have all my cuttings in the house, some in water and some in pots, all in all only about 20. I have been reading all your chatting and info on everything about growing them. Seems like I have alot to learn other than just sticking them in the dirt and watching them grow. Everyone always has good advise and ideas, but I don't think that the pollinating stuff I will get to. Still, maybe I will give it a try. There sure does seem to be an awful lot of different kinds to get though. Just wanted to let you know that I enjoy and appreciate the helpful hints (and the banter) even though I haven't posted anything. Someone told me I would become addicted to these. Guess they were right.
Hope everyone has a Happy and Safe Holiday Season

Dee

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

DeeinFl - I said the same thing. Just wanted 1 or 2 of those wonderful trumpet plants. Out of control, in a year or so I have about 50+ varieties. Now I want to make my own, want every single one, want everyone else's, could become a brug rustler. There's no turning back~~~~
Ănd yes, Brugmansia and Tonny will get to you too- you'll be pollinating. We're the pod-people

Florence, AL(Zone 7a)

I have done remarkably well so far this winter with a haolgin torchere and a pair of flexible desk lamps, sitting on shelves and aimed down at my brug cuttings. Regular incandescent 60-watt bulbs in the desk lamps, too! Not all of them have new growth, but most of them do, and I haven't suffered much leaf-drop either. I don't really have enough room to want to encourage much growth, and this has turned out to be a great holding-pattern lighting system.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Hi Dee, and welcome. guess we are kind of neighbors. brugs are terribly addicting, and so are the seed pods. Brugman passes the hybridizing fever to everyone. ditto what Liz says, don't want to miss one!

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

I just think you guys are so funny, but then if you can't laugh about things life in general will get you down. I work for the Air National Guard so my days are intense. Flowers and now this has become an outlet, especially now. Dee

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Dee, it's good to have you in the group. We laugh and we really do care about each other. Hope you'll stick with us and learn with us.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Welcome D.You have a great source for Brugs almost at your back door.Valleygrow in DeFuniak Springs.
http://valleygrow.com
And yes.....you will want them all.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Hi Dee,

Ditto to what everyone has said. I started with one and in three years have gone nuts over the prettiest tree I have ever seen. Like Liz, I want them all, but at some point I have to gain a little control. Good luck with your brugs. You will have a ball with them and I'm sure you will enjoy talking with everyone on the brug/friends site. Nice people here for sure.

I see I've missed alot since I've been off with company for the holidays. Glad to know I'm not the only one living in a brug forest. Must be sure to show this to Sam as he is tired of having to reach around brugs that are watering in the kitchen sink. This will show him I'm not the only one. Last night had all the babies from Mom's down here repotting when he came in. Wish I'd had a camera to get the expression on his face, that kinda'This is too much' look. Will have them all back down there when he gets home tonight. Must also be sure all are watered and out of the sink. Have missed you guys this past week, glad to be back. Pam

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Pam, Hope you had a nice holiday and nice to see you back.My DH got tired of them all over the house and new it would do no good to tell ME to find a place for them so he moved furniture around on the sunporch to accomodate the Brugs and even got a grow light for them. I guess I'm very lucky that he is taking an interest in them also as that makes it even more fun. He just told me to order the Preissal Book and said if I'm going to grow them I better learn everything about them. Of course he got no argument from me. :) I guess he figures that even though they are addicting there are a lot worse things to be addicted to.
