I chopped down this huge plant with gigantic leaves. The stem must be 2 1/2 inches In diameter. No burrs yet but looks like some were forming. The plant was over 5 foot tall.

I believe you are correct - though it helps to take pictures of the monster before you slay it.
Arctium minus is one species of this common weed.
