Passion Vines in with their brugs?? I love the passion vines and Tim has got me hooked on them too. I had trouble wiht the trellis staying upright in the pot (plus they outgrew it) so I planted a brug in a big pot and put one passion vine in with it. Most of them are still blooming and look pretty twining up the stems. The extra fertilize that I give the brugs doesn't seem to have bothered the passion vines. I'm hopeless, I have more than one obsession. I haven't gotten any seed from the PV's but I have had several cuttings to root.
Does anybody else grow
Sounds like it would be pretty with the two growing together.
I do - absolutely love them. Have about +or-14 varieties. The hardy ones are still outside, caerulea, incense, incarnata. The less so ones, nephrodes, corriacea, batwings etc are all inside. Had to remove every leaf and cut back but they're nestled in with the brugs. Love them- have a few cuttings rooted - but have never shipped them anywhere. When I was cutting them back to bring inside I sent bucket loads home with any poor soul who happened by. Can't stand throwing them in the compost.
cala, i have passion vines growing up a brug... the one called belotti, mix of careula and maypop i think. there are frits munching on it. and surprise... my red one that i rescued, took 1 1/2 hours for me to dig this old guy up, is blooming, a pretty red, no fruit, first bloom, saw today.
my place has the nicest weeds, baby salvias, passion vines, milkweeds all over the place. i love the zebra longwings.
on an off note, found out a little while ago my stepdad died today. does anyone else always feel guilty when someone they know dies?
Arlene - so sorry
Arlene, Sorry about your stepdad.
Arlene,
So sorry to hear about your stepdad.
sorry Arlene, and yes, I've felt guilty before.
thank you ladies...
sorry to mess up the thread, i do like passifloras climbing the brugs..
Arlene,
I'm so sorry to hear that you lost another family member. It seems like the Holidays bring this to a lot of families. I just lost my favorite uncle last week. Life goes on and we seem to get past the initial hurt/guilt with a little time. Take care my friend and you know I'm thinking about you.
S.
So sorry to hear about your step- father just passed away~
Speaking of the passifloras, has any of your seed germinated tiG? I haven't had any come up from the seed you sent me.
I think I'll try planting brugs and passiflora together next year. A red passiflora with a white brug sounds pretty to me. Purple with yellow? Okay, I'm going to have to watch out with this new idea. I'll have them all over the place. Do they not wind and choke off the brugs new growth?
Cala, I hope you get over that back problem before your trip. Hope it is only something like strained muscles and not something more serious. Take care of yourself.
brugie, that sounds wonderful! could get blue flowers on brugs like that... kinda of....
Brugie, you can soak the passiflora seeds overnight in lime or lemon juice and they germinate better. I've not had any trouble with the passifloras choking the new growth. The little curly-Q thingies don't wrap all the way around the stem and I guess if they do, you could cut them. I think a white brug with a red passion vine would be beautiful.
That's how I start mine brugie, oj. Mine have come up, I didn't keep too many cause I have the mother.
tiG,
How about the ones I sent you. Did they germinate? You might have to save me a plant from the capsularis. I just had no luck with them. I'm still trying though. Maybe 72 degrees isn't warm enough for them to germinate. I just have so much stuff on the mat that I hate to crank it up any higher.
How's that new baby doing? You are so lucky. I think I will only have one more and then the three kids will be through donating kids to make me happy.
you're gonna kill me, but they got set down by the computer, and they just rolled out today. I put this laptop in front of mine broken one, and they just got lost to my mind. I will soak them tomorrow and see what happens. I will start you a cutting of the capsularis, it's the only one I've been successful in rooting:)
tiG, Thanks a bunch. That is such a nice yellow and I would really like to have one later in the spring.
S.
tiG, you have capsualris? Is it the yellow one? Hmmmmmm, could I interest you in one of mine?
it's yellowish white, really pale greenish white. OH! I have a baby you can have! forgot it was sitting there, less than 2 ft from me.

I'll take it!! Save it till I get there!!
I told her a bit ago that she was going to live with the plant lady. She smiled:)
I'll take good care of her. Aren't you up late tonight, TiG?
LOL!! Cala, I'm usually up til 1, but we kept Emily last night. Of course that meant I was up almost all night as she wasn't at home and didn't like our sleeping arrangements, just wasn't up on Dave's:)
I also have a brug and Passiflora growing together :)
Daniel
Daniel, question...when do you go to school?
Arlene, that was just my thought. Let's see that would put it at about 11:45 when he posted.
Dee, i have a 14 year old boy. what a wonder that would be if he wanted to plant sub tropicals and roses in my yard!
I have two 16 year old Grandsons and all they want to do is
go out with girls and sleep.....sometimes they find time to go to school. LOL
