My Mandevilla recently died back. I looked up solutions to the problem, and found two that seemed applicable: light and water. I live in an apartment, so I only have windows on the east and west sides. The east side faces a line of trees between this building and the next; it gets plenty of sun in the winter, but not after the trees leaf out. The west side faces the parking lot.
So, I moved the Mandevilla to the west side, on the assumption that it wasn't gettin enough light. I also replaced its potting mix with a mixture of potting mix, cactus mix, and orchid bark, because I noticed that the soil was staying wet all the time; and waited to water again until the soil dried. (Apparently, weekly was too often.)
So, now that the soil has dried, my question is: should I let it stay dry a while and give the plant a dormancy period, or should I start watering again right away and hope it resprouts? I know that the mass of tubers is still sound, because I checked that during the repotting.
Mandevilla: let it be dormant or not?
