I'm told it was only about an inch & a half long.
Caterpillar ID in Southwest FL
Its a caterpillar of a moth in the family Notodontidae. It's in the genus Heterocampa, but I hesitate to offer a more specific i.d. as the markings of some species can be quite variable.
