There's a very helpful app, Merlin Bird ID, that I use. It's very simple, just enter the area you're in, where you saw the bird (wire, tree, ground, etc), size of the bird, and the predominant colors. It will show you several photos of likely birds you might be looking at. It helps me! A bird ID newbie.
