Brug seed pods

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Has anyone been successful in letting the seeds dry out from full green seedpods instead of ripening on the plant? Coming from a farm family, my mother would take seeds from vegetables and fruit and dry the seeds on a screen or paper towel. Is it possible with fully developed brug fruit? I have tons of seed pods that the frost is going to get before they are fully dried in the pod.

Hi, i believe Vicki said she has dooe this. this is my theory too, if they are mature enough. i remember peas on newspapers under a bed, of course they ready to eat when picked, and tomatoes in the same family --. brugman says you have better germination the darker the seeds are when the pod is opened, but i am looking at some very dark seeds that were light brown in the middle when i picked them.

tig, did any of the seeds i sent with culebra come up for you?

not yet, but they should be coming up any day now. Can't remember which x they were though, if you remember, I need to mark them.

Barb,
I just picked a pod off an Ollie and when I opened the pod the seeds looked white and a nice size.....the next morning when I looked at them they had dried up to nothing....they looked liked an elephant had walked on them. LOL I went ahead and planted them anyway...I'll let you know if any of them come up.

I have cut the stem about a foot below the pods and trimmed the top above the sead pods and stuck the stem in a big pot of potting soil, put on heat mat and they are still growing. This was last of Oct/first of Nov. I will post photos if I can find the file they are in.

my sons new found friend (not anymore) made major points with me by plucking the dw x ep seed pod off. it was only about an inch long.
in my desperate attempt to save it, i stuck the penduncle in a glass of water. i know this extremely far fetched, but stranger things have happened...of course, im sure ill faint if the thing develops roots, but hey, some have been able to root leaves, why not the penduncle, lol

Now Jen, that is just too funny. Lol, can't blame him too much though...ignorance is bliss ayy? For the record, one can have seeds go from white to very dark in just a few hours upon exposure to light even when removed from a completly green pod. What does this tell you? Simply put, you got lucky or you timed it just right.
