Question for Vicki H

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

There has been a lot of discussion recently about a double pink.Isn't your Angel's Dream a double pink?If it is,do you still expect to have it available next spring and if you do,what is the first day of spring at your house?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

G2S, I have the Angel's Dream ordered from Vicki and my order was approved for spring shipment, so I would assume that it can still be ordered. I made my order in Sept. or Oct. of this year. Yes, it is a double pink and I can't wait to get it.

Brugie: You're going to be the first with a double pink. Congrats.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Maybe one of the first, but I won't know what to do with it when it blooms. I've not done any pollinating. I just thought that since everyone wanted it, I'd buy it and then share when it is big enough to chop into pieces. That way all of you can do some great things with it and maybe I'll get one or two of your hybrids. Just not a long enough season here to hybridize unless we would have another nice long fall like we did this year. However, I carved the brugs into pieces early as I thought the season was over and had I taken them into the garage at the right time I could still be playing with them and trying to hybridize. Need practice!!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Brugie, want me to send you something with roots that will bloom soon? have to look at what i have like that you don't have.... i do have some in pots with buds... then we could send you pollen......

this is the best fall/winter i remember. going to get cold though, i think in the 40s this week (lol)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene, thanks a bunch, but I'll do okay with what I have. I did want to tell you that my CG that was, and I stress the word was, 2-1/2 ft. tall has lost a lot of its height. I dropped one of my crutches on it yesterday and now the poor thing is only about 8 inches tall and his top is sitting in water until I can get another pot filled with soil. Made me sick. This morning I told Jim that Valley White needed a hair cut and he lost his breath when I reached over and broke the top off of it. That one just got tossed outside. I'm not really happy with its performance.

(Zone 6a)

That's what I was thinking too Brugie. Our seasons are just a bit short to hybridize unless we have a greenhouse to keep em warm all winter so the seed pods mature. Think I would like to plant and grow out seeds from others that have a good chance of producing nice doubles though.

I have a cane that I can whip my brugs into shape with:)

When you live in our northern zones you "gotta make pollen, while the sun shines",or something like that.I pollenated mine in late summer and harvested 1 pod(some fell off when I brought them inside)And I still have a pod on my versi.Peach.So you can do it!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Hey Owen,

Be careful with that cane. I think they are easier to drop on a brug than crutches are. Had I been paying attention to what I was doing, Charlie would still be tall and healthy. And no, I wasn't eating any of your cake at the time. Felt like it afterwards though!!

Brugie: Do you need another CG? Email me.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

brugie, better a crutch fall than you, hope you have a speedy recovery.

I am waiting on a reply from our California growing facilities. As soon as they send me the availability info for Angel's Dream I will let you know.
Brugmansia is no longer grown , to sell, in our Tennessee facilities. We are actively growing different kinds of beautiful hydrangeas which are much more suited to TN. climate.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Ms. Vicki, if they will sell a flat or two of babies to us, that would be even better. we can have them shipped to tig...

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

that would cover all of us!!! and a flat of L'Amours too, Vicki can you find out for us?

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

and i really want a double yellow..... any of those? just rooted good flats.

i would pay for any extras, unless someone else wants to share them.

I'm game too Arlene. Let me know what you find out.
As for CG, I still have the rooted part and it will throw out another shoot and the top will root for me too, so now I'll have to figure out what to do with the extra one. Maybe a birthday gift for someone on the list. :-)

Thanks for the offer. How is my baby doing? She is the one that intrigues me most.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Brugie, she is starting to grow, getting bigger leaves. i want to make sure they are rooted really well before shipping. i love this plant, gotta pick my place to put her in the ground.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene,
I'm sure you will make her a beauty for me. I just hope you have good luck with a pod or two from the one you pollinated. Will be exciting to see what you get from those seeds. However, the wait will be long and I'm not good at waiting, so I'm glad you are doing the hybridizing and not me, especially with this one. Thanks so much for keeping my baby for me until spring. I would have hated for her to get an Iowa chill if you had shipped now. You are a peach my friend. Thank you so much for everything.

I was under the impression the flats would not be available next year. Now it just says "Distributors Inquiries Welcome" on the website. I went ahead and placed my order already.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Well heck, I guess I have to wait now to see if I'm going to get that Angel's Dream. I had my chest puffed up for that one. Get to work you guys, in case it isn't available, you will have to come up with one. Bet you do it anyway. Owen, if you stay out of that cake, you might just be one of the first to get the job done!!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Brugie - hopefully they'll still have AD for your order. I just meant the wholesale flats (with 18 plants each) - that I didn't think they'd have. I ordered AD too. Keep your fingers crossed!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Poppysue,
Vicki wrote on one of the other threads that she is waiting to see if Angel's Dream will be available. She will let us know as soon as she finds out. It comes from a grower in California, I believe. Don't quote me on that. I'd have to go find her post in that other thread.
