Surprised nothing on the site about this.... I am in 9b, picked up a 2.5 foot plant in LA area, driving back to Aptos, CA (on the Monterey Bay). The potted plant seems happy, despite the cool winter. Not sure how it will do, but I am giving it a shot.
Anyone growing Achacha (aka achachairu aka garcinia humulis)
Hi manoflamatza,
Not sure, you may need another seedling as cross-pollinator. Garcinia fruits are teeth-gratingly sour, you know .... But especially if you have citrus greening in your area, biodiversity isn't a bad idea.
I am growing one but it will likely be a few years before I attain fruit. Everyone has their own opinions and some find the Garcinia family seemingly sour. I'm not sure why but I don't find the same flavor profile, sour yes, but by no means offensive or off-putting. I have eaten thousands of mangosteens and never found them overly sour. Just one more opinion.
