I am quite new here. Been reading a lot of threads but never posted anything.
Here is my first contribution with a question.
I wanted to see what would happen if I put a tomato plant inside a sealed jar and just left if there.
Now it has started to grow roots directly out of the stem.
What is the reason/how can it happen?
Does it have to do with the high level of humidity inside the jar?
Tomatoes are easily capable of growing roots from stem cuttings. Look for online articles on tomato stem cuttings. I am currently propagating stem cuttings from several heirloom plants where I had earlier growing problems and want more than one of those plants. I place a cup with water at the base of the plant and cut one or more suckers. This way I know the variety. A week or ten days later there are roots. I pot the suckers, keep them wet initially and slowly adapt them to life in soil. Then into the ground.
