Maybe we should list our doubles for brugman and Tonny and maybe they can help us on our way. I have candida double white, species, Herrenhauser G, I think a double yellow? Of the pink I have the ever popular(!) Frosty Pink, Ecuador Pink, candida pink, Rosenrot, Pink Delight, is Isabella pink?, Rosa Traum (pink?)is Blush pink?, Rosabelle. Hopeless - don't even know the colour of some of my brugs.
Doubles listing for Brugman
I have Harenhauser Garten and the double white from Brugie. Oh and a cutting of a double white from somebody (I will check tomorrow, it's on the tag)
I have in pink: Frosty Pink (doesn't everybody, but I love the way this one blooms all summer)Isabella, Ecuador Pink; Rosabelle and Amber Rose from Eric; and Rosa Uberashungi and Pink Beauty ordered from Hodniks. I also have a double yellow ordered from them.
I have the double white with no name, a double white from Eric, and Tiara (yellow), HG (orange), and Angel's Dream (pink) (all doubles) ordered for spring delivery. Single pinks include the Frosty Pink, Insignis pink, Isabella, Frosty Pink from Eric, and have Butterfly and L'Amour ordered for spring delivery. May have other pinks, but can't think well this late in the day. Even though I won't be able to handle all the seedlings that Eric has mentioned growing on, I'll do my best with the above to see if I can come up with something in Iowa. Gets so cold her early that it might be hard to get the seeds to mature in time. Will try Cala's method of taking a cutting with the seed pod on it if necessary. The above will be available next summer if any of you need cuttings.
I have double white, species and knightii on the way. Pinks: Frosty, Isabella, Pink Beauty, Rosabella, Amber Rose, Butterfly, Equador Pink, tons and tons of Isabella x seedlings from Eric, versi-peach x butterfly seedlings, Blush (yes, it's pink), pink aurea on the way, and HHG.
I think I have butterfly too. It's getting bad when I can't remember. It was much easier when I only had 3 varieties!! (but I wouldn't miss this for anything)I do love the brugs!!
In doubles I have Herrenhauser,Knightii,Miami Double white,Species,Candida DW,Golden Lady,Shredded White,Shredded Jamaican Yellow and FP Tiara.
As for pinks,I have Rosea,Butterfly,Pink Beauty,Pink Delight,Rosabelle,Ecuador Pink,Frosty Pink,Isabella,Sauv pink and several others.(ok,so I like the pinks)

I will join you Arlene, in feeling down right pitiful.I have a double white from MSJen. If anyone has more than they want please let me know what I can do to trade for some more doubles. Trade, postage or whatever.
For Msjen....we are trying to figure out what we,as a group, have to work with in trying for a double pink.
Along that line,I wonder if we should include the peaches, apricots, and salmons. It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to call them a shade of pink.
Doubles I have :Enchanted and candida double whites, only the enchanted is large enough to bloom, but no buds,HG,and Desiree,(both double orange and both are very small)Pinks:Isabella,Frosty pink, suaveolens pink all blooming size, babies are pink beauty, kyles pink, butterfly, amber rose, and rosabella,
JT, actually, i am partial to peach and SURPRISE... i have ordered the creamsickle and double peach from Native Habitat. my check cleared my bank on tuesday, hopefully they are about as fast shipping as they are taking the money. actually, i am a really peachy kinda person.
Peach is pinkyish, wonder if they have hockey sticks and golf clubs in peach .Just kiddin with you arlene
Oh Arlene, I'm so happy for you. I would love to have either of them and think I have a friend who is getting Creamsickle from a friend of hers. With all the different brugs that people have, there has to be a way to hybridize some gorgeous brugs that will make Europe sit up and take notice. I'm ordering one that isn't shredded but the skirt looks like ribbons. It is white, but again, I ordered for the unusual, not the color.
CC, i was looking at culebra today, just gonna have to take you a pic!!!!!!!!!! the part i guess that has the pollen are crooked.....
brugie, if you can change your order i can get you HG and butterfly cuttings before they can, let me know!!!!
Arlene,
Thanks, but I had to have a $50 order or they wouldn't take my order. I think a lot more people would order if there wasn't a minimum put on the order. It isn't a big deal and since I can't really "grow" them until spring, it will be okay. Brugs just don't grow well in the house, even under lights, for me. I get growth, but not enough to get me that far ahead for spring. The JO that you suggested I get a jump start with is growing better than most and I have a CG that is about 2-1/2 ft. tall, but I doubt that I get any bloom until they get that good old sun shine on them. Again, thanks for your offer. If I don't get mine to grow, I might call on you for a cutting if that is okay.
Arlene,I'd love to see it,Are their any pods yet??
CC, holding my breath, may have one started. none of them have fallen off yet. these are really neat plants.
hi busybee, i have a hg that i can cut back for you. its too small to bloom this year anyway.
if youre interested, email me. its big enough to get a healhty tip cutting, but not big enough for more than one. does that make sense?
lmk
jen
I have a Dbl. white, Frosty Pink, Insignis Pink and Isabella.
This is good. All we need is a brug spread sheet and Brugman and Tonny to make sense of it all.
yeah, cause I forgot suavolens pink, rosea and Kyles Pink and the double white aurea I have coming.
Doubles...Double White, Species, HG, Golden Lady,..would shredded white count. :0)
Pinks...Butterfly, Equador Pink... Isabella....Jackie's Blush..Insignis Pink...Insignis Frosty Pink...Aurea Pink...Pink Beauty
I'm sure there is more but I can't remember right now...senior moment
I am personally biased to use darker pinks and aurea types. Peaches should be fine to use to create a pink Brug as orange and pink or yellow and pink often make peach. Knightii-again another sound choice, but I would cross any of Knightii's offspring back to a another double x pink hybrid. If memory serves me, I do think that I talked with one hybridizer who claims to have gotten a very light shade of pink from an aurea white x knightii cross, but thats probably a one in a million type seed. Still, luck is grand in any form. Shredded white is certainly classified as a double, but again, I would cross shreddeds offspring back to another double x pink hybrid like HG x Butterfly or Ecuador pink. Ecuador pink is a very slow grower for me though and speed of growth is something I prefer. Hence, adding a faster growing Brugmansia like Butterfly, HG, Isabella, or Frosty pink for both speed and its ability to toss out highly productive hybrids would be a plus. Frosty pink hybrids are generally very fertile both ways. I think that this first year- we don't really need to worry about making any charts, although I imagine everyone will be making their own charts of what they would like to try with what they have blooming at any one moment. Personally, if everyone used the same Butterfly and Rosabella pollen on Knightii, Candida species, Shredded white, ETC>>OHH THE MIND IS BOGGLED BY THE POSSIBILITIES
so how is this going to work now???
Guess I can sit back and watch for a while,I don't see any flowers showing up here for a few months!!!
Quite simply,
We all agree to share the best one or two of our seedlings with other members of the group. Noting mother and father of said seedling. Each year we share again. If we don't have anything to share in the name of one of our own creations for whatever reason-sending out an HG or some other doubles should be acceptable the first year as should pinks. Any agree?
sounds good to me I agree working together will produce the goal we are setting out to do much quicker
count me in
Me too!
My personal goals on this or what I am going to be personally breeding for...most velvety-thats a trait that allows you to cull fairly early. Second-growth or speed of growth, 3rd-early blooms, 4th bloom shape and color. I think this is a needed aspect as far as growth is concerned as so many have noted how slow the double pinks are in growth. Secondary traits that would be nice to select for-shortest calyx, shortest bloom in my case, most fragrant, and of course any oddities that may arise. Others may choose to go for widest skirt-most open eye, most recurve. I think we should also try to stay away from back crossing too much except as a test as that may increase our chances of having a much slower growing more disease prone Brugmansia. Although it would also increase our chances of an early double pink. I think in the large numbers we are doing everything that simply crossing a Knightii x Butterfly to a HG x Rosabella for instance to form a (Knightii x Butterfly x (hg x R))....those seedlings alone in large enough numbers should enable one of us to get lucky. I also propose that anyone that has any extra seed that they are not going to at least sprout send these extra seed to another member in the group if they agree to plant them and grow them out. Having all of these Florida group members in our midst...well that simply makes me a bit more confident as these growers will most likely be the source of a large portion of our hybrid seed for the group as it does not always freeze here in Florida. Those with green houses are obviously a plus as well or those with access to green houses....
Eric, can the pollen or a doaner flower yeild viable pollen without the entire plant? Can say person A,with a double blooming, ship a flower or pollen on a Q tip to person B who has a Pink in bloom?Or vice versa?Has this been tried?
I haverecieved pollen from England before via anther samples and I have also recieved pollen via tip cuttings with flower still attached. The tip is able to soak up enough moisture generlly that the pollen arrives in descent enough shape. Q-tips work good with hybrids that give off tons of pollen like many of the frosty pink x hybrid seedlings do, but other hybrids have such poor pollen that one needs to have them as seed bearers or have a fresh flower available. Doubles are often best as seed bearers and not pollen donors. Doubles that I have seen have put off their best pollen in cooler weather. Think perhaps the double and triple skirts raise the internal temp of the flower every so slightly, but who knows.

Doubles: Knightii (flowering soon, big buds),Species, Shredded White (tiny),HG, Tiara, double candida yellow(supposedly), and whatever I get from Monika's seeds.
Pink: Rosabelle, Rosa Traum, Rosea, Suav. Pink, Insignis Pink, F. Pink, Candida Pink, Ecuador Pink, maybe more.
Not at home right now and don't have a list, only a bad memory. LOL
I could use some fp or any other pink pollen soon to cross with the Knightii if anyone has any.
I have Frosty Pink open today and a few more buds. I can send you a bud if you want. Email me if interested.
New crosses from my Garden...Candida species x Candida pink, Candida species x Ecuador pink, Candida species x Rosabell...Doubles I have...Desire, Hg, Candida species, Candida knightii.
Notes: You can put pollen on the white doubles while they are still green and not even out of the calyx, but try placing pollen on HG while it is green and poking out a few inches and you will find you are a week to 2 weeks too early.
