Echinopsis (Echinopsis schickendantzii)
The sample I was given of this Cacti is still only 10" high here in the Tropics of The Gold Coast.
So I can only imagine it needs that yearly FROST to make it thrive like it does in these Photographs.
I did not believe you, kell, so I just looked it up.
"Echinopsis also tolerate cold temperatures well during winter months. Obviously, however, they must be brought inside during hard freezes or their water-filled bodies will freeze as well. Actually, Echinopsis not only tolerate cold temperatures, they enjoy the cold during the winter months and go almost dormant. Many growers believe that this cold period is key to good blooming the following year, which means that if you live near the equator where it’s hot hot hot all year long, you may need to find a way to get your Echinopsis a break from the heat for a few months if you hope to get good flowering."

LOL Shows you what I do not know!
Hey Kell,
Have I ever lied to you ?
It's only a 19 hour flight for you to get here and look for yourself.
You have always wanted to visit Australia.
I will drive you the 3 1/2 hours to Stanthorpe so you can see them for real.
I notice none of the Pics of this Cacti on this site are really spectacular so I will add some more tomorrow. ;o)
Cheers kell.
LOL kell I will be there Sunday so please pick me up and slip an extra shrimp on the barbie for me!
I hope Your wings can hold up to the flight because ALL Flights are grounded in and out of Australia.
But as you are Flying under your own steam you can just land in the front Paddock.
Prawns are in short supply at the moment so I will prepare this Road Kill for you.
Kangaroo Tail Soup is really good.
Cheers kell.
Thanks kell, but as good as road kill Kangaroo Tail Soup sounds, I think I will hold out for Paul Hogan to rise from the dead and slip an extra shrimp on the barbie for me.
