Christmas tour

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Okay, these are out plans (subject to change). We are leaving after Christmas day and going to Hattiesburg,Ms to visit my friend Ruby. Then on to Gulfport so DH can fish. (I hate fishing and was wondering about visiting Glory) does anybody else live in Hattiesburg or Gulfport that I could visit? We will have Wally with us (he doesn't board well and almost died the last time we left him, but he will be staying either in the car or in the motel room). After we leave Gulfport we will be driving to Georgia to see my brother, my DH's sister and tiG. Hopefully we will get to see Mollybee also. I'm so excited and am thinking about how many plants I can pack to take with me to share.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Oh Cala I would like to meet up with you too when you get to the Atlanta area. When do you think that will be??

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

So far here are the plans: Drive to Hattiesburg during the night to arrive in the morning of the 26th or 27th (haven't nailed him down on that one) stay one day and night. Leave in the morning going to Gulfport, stay 2 days. Leave there and drive to Atlanta area. I will post more info right before we leave. I would love to stop and see as many of my DG friends as I can squeeze in.
Wally is my dog, big dog. He is a doberman, biggest chicken dog I've ever seen. He sleeps with a blanket and teddybear on my feet. When we have boarded him (2times) he refused to eat or drink and almost died. We don't have the heart to leave him, but both DH and I want to go on this trip so we will be bringing him. He loves to travel, is happy to stay in the car (as long as he has blankie and bear). We usually get online and find motels that allow dogs.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Cala, I'd love to take you to RarePlants, a great nursery that's not too far. Don't know if you're interested, but since you'll be headed home from this area, you might find something to stick in the back:)

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

tiG, that sounds like fun!! I would love to go.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

uh oh, I better save a few pennies so I don't come home empty handed, I love that place!

Woodstock, ON(Zone 6B)

Lucky you Cala. I recently had that same opportunity and it was great. Hope you have lots of fun, buy lots of goodies and get to exchange with your new friends. I personally think the exchanging is the best part.
/Regards Annie

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm jealous. Can't you swing by Iowa? :-) tiG, I think you better save more than a few pennies.

Have a great time Susie!!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Brugie
That will be a trip for warm weather. I've got a friend in Missouri that would shoot me if I came to see you and not her.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Hey Susie,

I am wondering if that would be Plant_Lady? We have talked about meeting half way between our places one day when both of us are feeling up to par. Hate to say it, but Iowa is not a great place for a vacation, but would love to see you if you ever get up this way.

S.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Brugie, a few years ago i went on a vacation of a lifetime with my parents. we visited illinois, iowa, nebraska and south dakota. on our way from bloomington to omaha we saw a sign for amana, iowa. for some reason we thought it had to do with the amish people so we got off the highway just to check it out. we spent the ENTIRE day in amana...little, lower, middle. we had the most fantastic german food there and bought the neatest crafts and the best wine..wow, loved those winerys (they gave free samples, lol).
it was a great day. we were due in omaha that afternoon, needless to say, we didnt make it.
i look forward to going back again. i have a half brother that was at the clarinda facility. i thought maybe id get up that way again, but he was paroled before i could. (my skeletons come out, lol).
jen
which reminds me, i need more wine, lol

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Brugie, that would be her. She sent me a Christmas present today but told me not to open it till the 24th. Can you believe someone would do that to me? (she sent my DH some homemade fudge, did she make him wait???Noooooooo, he got his present today!!!)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Jen, can you believe that I have never visited that place. I hear that there is a great mall over that way to that has all the name brand stuff at low prices. One day I'll take a trip. Would be about 2 hours from me. If you like wine, my DH makes it in the basement. I think he has 10 gallons that needs to be bottled. We tried growing grapes here, but he has ended up just ordering the concentrate. We have had some good wine from his efforts. However, I'd rather spend the money on flowers and just drink Pepsi. Call me a prude!!

Susie, isn't she a nice person? She and I have done some trading since I met her on DG. I'd say she probably sent you something pretty special to make you wait.
I'm sure your DH thinks the fudge is special too. Did he share with you?

Time for ER.....Later

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

i love homemade wine..especially strawberry zinfandel

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Brugie, yes he shared with me. At least there weren't any workers at the green house to have to share with too!! She does know how to pick really nice presents. For my b'day she sent me something for my dry skin plus other goodies. Once she sent me a "stinky" package, it had a fritilaria bulb in it!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Fritilaria do smell but what an unusual bloom. The ones I had disappeared after a hard winter. Had to be the winter as I didn't think animals would eat them. Hope you have a great vacation. Just think of those of us in Iowa looking at pure white (if it ever gets here) and freezing our rears off when we go outside. Yes, I know we could move south, but our spring through fall is so nice here.

S.

PS. My plants are looking great. Can't wait for spring.

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas and if it comes true here it will be a nitemare

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Might be a nightmare, but wouldn't all the kids enjoy some snow for a few hours? Traffic would be hauled to a stop though. We get used to it all.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

all i need is a week's notice on the snow, or even frost. will take me that long to take care of all my babies.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

For you Arlene, I hope you don't get the frost or the snow. Would sure be easier to get all the pods to ripen and babies growing if you don't have to deal with the cold, cold. Have you ever had a winter without frost? At 10 this morning we still had frost on the front deck. The pea hens didn't even come for their daily visit today.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

what are pea hens? i saw my flock of turkeys out front today, coming back from the store, still 7 of them. DH scared a racoon off the porch one night this week. a couple of weeks ago it was a possum, DH was so funny made me close the door afraid it would come in. a huge heron rested on our pool last week, above ground one. but really wish i could have gotten a pic of the hawk in the bird bath a few weeks ago. thought i was eating/baking cake.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene,

Peahens are the female peacock. Not very pretty to look at but interesting to watch. Sounds like you have a lot of wild life out there. Hope it isn't cake causing it. :-)
