Tonny - just looked at your trade list. There are 2 there that I've never heard of - (no surprise) James?? And you want Amaron? Can you tell us about them? We're always looking for brugs we can't have!
Tonny's brugs
In my tradelist I have entered some more wanted species. Not species, that I exspect to find in the next many years, but I still want them badly. I also included illustrations of the species, as I know of a very few good picts in existence. Yea, you guessed right. Its the most wanted Brugmansia x candida and aurea fromthe Colombian valley Sibondoy. There are Biagan, Buyès, Amaron, Culebra and Quinde :) the scientists disagree, wherether these belongs to B. x candida or B. aurea, but I know, that they all have beautiful flowers and some of them peculiar leaves. Ocre is the only one, which has deep ocre-orange flowers. The rest is white. The flowers come in different sizes and forms dependant of cv., but in regard of the white flowers, these seems to differ most in that the corolla tube is more visible, than in others. The cv. with the most visible tube remind of versicolor/candida cross and the other types look like plain candidas. I hope you will enjoy the illustrations. I don`t remember, if I postet the land cart of the Sibondoy vally also. If I did, then lets meet there and fill our socks with cuttings, before we return to our homes *l*
Sorry, I also should have described, that "James" starts out a very light yellow and changes into a very dark orange
and I was told, that it is a very fast grower. I have this one as seeds and as cuttings. Of pure cuttings that has just formed roots and some the first small leaves (Yahooo!!) I grow James, twisted sister, Carol G x unknown parent, Whiskers and CG x ocre.
Tonny, if you're looking for anything that's not extremely rare :) let me know, I may can help.
Tonny,
I have James, Twisted sister and carol G. could you tell me what they look like? I received them in a trade this summer so they are still babies.
I am also trying to collect all Whiskers Hybrids since I had the first Whiskers....I received some seeds from LBJ a few years ago and one she send we named Whiskers. Arlene has a white Whiskers hybrid she is going to give me a cutting of. Could you tell me what color is your Whiskers x Charles G.x Ocre?
what is Carol G and Twisted Sister? anyone have photos?
I'm wondering too. I haven't heard of those two.
tiG,
I'll send a list of some 12 or so that I received in a trade just a few weeks ago...can't remember all what they are...please remind me....remember I can't remember anything.
Yes, do anyone have fotos of these? Could be fun :) I only have very brief descriptions and I can`t tell much from them, because they are cuttings just rooted and forming small leaves :) The descriptions I got of them are:
Whiskers: Fast grower. Flower yellow with long whiskers.
Garol G: Flower: Off-white, heavy bloomer, mild perfume.
Twisted Sister: Fast growing. Flower Off-yellow. The whiskers are sometimes cork-screwed and will hold on to each other and hold the flower together for a day or two.
James: Extremely tall growing. First cutting reached 10 ft. in a year, then cut down to 4 ft. Next year it reached 18 ft. Heavy bloomer. In its second year it had approximately 150 + flowers every time it had a rush. Its close to a CG, but the flowers are smaller. Flower starts out light yellow and ends up very dark orange. Good perfume.
CG x ocre: I virtually have no idea or description of it :( If any of you know ...
Do whiskers come in more "editions" *lol* in more color-types? Are the horns long in other types as well?
Even if I`m not new to brugs, I only grow few of them. The arborea and "Ida" and sang has been cut down for a while for winter storage, so there is not much to offer here right now. When they all grow large enough and you all are interested, I like to share :)
Glory, the white hybrid is one of eric's hybrids, it has long horns that i referred to as whiskers and largee blooms. if you still want cuttings you are more than welcome, but it is off a plant i got from brugman in june.
Tonny
Hodniks will have Quinde in the spring.
Calalily - Wow, thanks. I think I will buy a million!
Kirchner in Germany has Amaron.

Now we can all soon grow all species of the valley. I have read of them in so many years, so ... its fantastic!
To sumary the available species: sangre, Amaron, Quinde, Ocre, Culebra
Now we only need Buyes, Munchira and Biagan. Where was it, that this card of the valley was *lol*
After reading Brugmans posting on the yahoo brug forum about the Colombian Dat. Pyt. virus, I have got second thoughts of purchasing Amaron, Quinde, Sangre, Ocre and Culebra.
These originally came from Colombia, - but will they be free of dormant CDPV?
Actually I have been waiting for that moment for years, but here I feel I have to know more. Even if I am con APHIS, this isn`t the same as being pro-virus. I still feel, that the APHIS enforcement will result in an explosive increase in trafic of uncertified crops and its why I find it dangerous.
On the other hand, by making certificates easier to obtain and by financing parts of the exspenses from a Govermental or international fund I know, that every Brug grower wordlwide will be proud to use them and to follow safety procedures.
