I am so envious, Stan! That is so fat! Does it bloom for you? Do you have it living on your roof? LOL
IT blooms,Kell!..tubular red things that last about a day. I bought it at the SF flower and garden show when it was in San Mateo. Its branched too.
See behind it the King palm? Its FIRST flowering at 25' and 11 or 12 years old,10 in ground. I thought it was never going to flower since I see around town smaller that flower. My watering and fertilizing routine kept in in growth mode I guess.
I want to plant those seeds!

The palm looks so tall. What is the plant beneath it? It looks so happy.
What used to Schefflera elegantissima..and now is Pleranda. I started it as a 6" potted plant in 2008- 2009 or so. So a small grouping. Two are about 12' tall and others are under canopy..so you can see all at the same time, the juvenile fine foliage and the adult cut foliage. Its been flowering the last few years. You should see my Birds nest Fern I bought that same trip to Longs in Oakland when they were primo for tropical plants. I knew it was different then most BNF sold..it was deeper green for one. As of today it has a fat tree fern like trunk and about 5' fronds radiating out from it. I try to feed it banana peels..but I noticed none the other day..Possums must eat them!
I love how your huge trees were planted by you long ago as babies! I would say you are emotionally attached! LOL I would be. I have a HUGE purple bougainvillea I planted 30 years ago from a gallon pot that if it has not been cut back by angry neighbors would have taken over the whole neighborhood. It has a huge trunk. sadly I planted it right up to the fence. when a neighbor put in a new fence I begged her to zigzag it a bit to make room for the trunk. She was moving so she did! LOL I will never get why some object to a purple mass of blooms!
I would feed my giant staghorn fern bananas for the potassium. I would toss a couple rotting ones into the crown. Now that you say that, I wonder if I was feeding the racoons or even possums. LOL
Same here with bad neighbors. They cut the top of a Monstera that reached over a 6' fence. Looked great.
If I hit the lotto- goodbye Hayward. But far too much equity to just sell. Why let others burden me? Let THEM move..ha.
Here,I did plant everything myself. Tree's..to just about the weeds.
