i just decided not to risk, with no guarantee, for i think i figured a little over $5.00 a cutting..... i never wrote her back, we had finalized, but if you can get from hodniks a plant with roots, seems a litle different. this was the most of what she had, early november.
Tonny, are you allowed to trade plants from denmark to usa? btw, nice to meet you.
OCRE???
Hi Tonny! Welcome to Dave's. I think you'll like it here and I know we'll be grateful for your datura expertise.
Welcome to DG! You will love it~ :0)
Welcome Tonny. The Arborea cuttings I received from you all rooted and are growing well.
tiG - Thanks, sounds great. If I don`t come across it in Germany, I`ll like to have one of yours. I plan to order from Germany in the early spring and hope, that also ocre is available at that time :)
Arlene, - nice to meet you too :) the 22. january USDA-APHIS will enforce that all plant material entries into the US must be accompanied by a physiosanitary certificate. So I am allowed to ship, but our buyers has to pay for the certificate (260 danish crowns=31 US $) and I am foreseeing, that most customers will find it way to expensive. The same rules apply to the seeds and cuttings I personally trade in our lovely forum. Before that time, it was widely accepted, that an entire crop required one certificate for each started acre of land, but the situation for non-US personal plant trades or seedsmen is, that certification is needed for each individual shipment. Some of my US customers buy for maybe 7-20 $ incl. p&p, but they now has to pay 38-51 $ for the same packets after the law enforcement. But its not 22. january 2001 yes, so yes, I am allowed to ship :) Speaking of this, what are your opinion of me starting a new threat about this particular subject to collect signatures to protest against this law, that in many ways are going to affect us all? The Danish Minister of the State - Anders Fogh Rasmussen - are invited to The White House to meet with President Bush to discuss (among other things) improvements of the import/export connections between The EU and The US. Maybe if the signatures is many enough, Mr. Fogh-Rasmussen will take the issue up with Mr. Bush. Without an initiative, these people with the power to decide over our future, will not know of the problem. So by collecting signatures, we give them a chance to work for us :) Arlene, you are welcome trade with me :)
Redrose - Thanks. I allready loves to be in DG :) Ocre is a cultivated variety of Brugmansia candida (B. candida cv. "ocre"). It was made by the tribes inhibiting the valley of Sibondoy in Colombia, where it is held as an ornamental and as a sacred plant. Here is a link to a website with a image of it: http://www.kwekerijgommer.com/index_english.html
Poppysue - Thank you for the roses, - but all you people have been here longer than me, so you are the experts, that I want to learn from :)
You can have my signature Tonny!!!
And mine
gone2seed - Thats nice to know, thanks :) Now, I can imagine, you are looking forward to watch the flowers. I can see, that you live in zone 8, - when is it time to plant out in your garden?
tiG and Nefer - thank you both for your support. If we all stand together, there is again hope, that seeds, cuttings and plants can find their home in our gardens. I appreciate your fast reaction and tomorrow I will put up a website to explain the situation and to collect signatures to better the situation :) I know, that we can make this happen!
Tonny, Let us know the website address when you put it up. I'm sure you will get lots of signatures.
Count me in!!!!!
I know that the APHIS law will hurt traders but the reason it was passed is because of diseased material entering our country and causing great damage to commercial crops. For instance: green house whitefly-Mid East, Daylily rust-So. America, Chrysanthemum rust-Asia, plus new varieties of thrips, another kind of whitefly and also saw a new bug mentioned in Greenhouse Grower that is causing damage to crops. The geranium problem a few years ago that wiped out entire crops came from infected material brought into this country. Many of the viruses that are infecting green house crops, including the brug viruses, came from South America on infected plants. When we purchase phyto certificates, they are for each state, can be used for all shipments going to that state. Looks like they could purchase one certificate that could be used for all shipments to a specific country. I mean, if it's safe to ship to one person in the US, it ought to be safe to ship from the same point to several people in the US. JMHO as a commercial green house owner.
Wonderful hybrids Arlene, I think that 5 a cutting is very inexpensive for those hybrids and well worth the gamble. Hardwood cuttings of course? If they are hardwood then they will root very easily. Heck, most of us here have no problem rooting the very green cuttings and some of the members here even root green cuttings of the hard to root varieties hydroponically.
I wrote and am hoping she hasnt' put everything to sleep and will sell me some cuttings before the new regs go into effect. But the one I really really really really want is Angel Dream. They are the only ones the have it besides LBJ and I can't get an email answer from them :(
Tig,
Wishing you all the luck in the world. I would take hardwood cuttings anyday of that hybrid. I can't believe she offers them so cheaply. Needless to say I was in awe that she was even offering them as cuttings. All I can say is she must be a true lover of Brugmansia to let them go for such a low price. I think some people are simply more interested in sharing the beauty of brugmansia and I commend them for this. At the very least its nice to know that a few are willing to do this.
OKAY MYBAD..... if you look at the shipping, that is the bummer. i was $8.00 cutting, got her to add three more on. here is the thing, there is no reason why we can't be hybridizing the same things and better. i have still have 5-6 of your Xs that haven't bloomed, and maybe 100 seed pods. if they were all double that would be one thing....she is a very very nice lady, i never wrote her back. i would have probably had a check in the mail but she wanted a euro check and you can't get them here...... and yes, wood cuttings.....said she would do as experiment to see how it went......
arlene, I agree, we can do the same or better. But to be able to take that one and go further, with some of Eric and Glorias hybrids! can you imagine what a head start that would be.
Not here, i called the banks. the only one who could would only do it if you already had an account there and would take 3 days. another bank said they had just gotten a memo about euro checks but they weren't doing them, as said other banks i called.
:( okay, I'm going to go ahead, and take the money I have saved and order the double white aurea from NativeHabitat. Between all of us trying, someone has to come up with something equally as stunning. I don't have to have Angel's Dream, I don't have to have Angel's Dream, I don't have to have Angel's Dream, I don't have to have Angel's Dream, ...
Lol, but it would be heavenly wouldn't it tig.
yes, and I'm still going to pout until I get one!!!
If my order comes through from LBJ, I'll share cuttings of Angel's Dream when they are big enough.
S.
((((brugie)))) I'll share my double white aurea with ya!
I'm making a list and keeping it on my desktop so that those I promise to get them first. You are there girl!!
I need to make my list too. Better put it in the trade tracker!!
Thanks Tonny for tell me about what it was "ORCE"~ and glad you like DG! Like I said those all dg friends so loving and warm friends!! :)
roflol i read ocre was hard to grow, i guess not. i really like the long horns too.
don't know if it is true, it's on one of the sites something like that....i think. i was laughing at you calling them "horns" which is a very good name for them. it just cracks me up.
