Has anyone tried 6% dursban diluted down to 1 1/4 ounce per gallon of water for a spray for spider mites, aphids, etc. on brugs?
I would think it would work very well. In various dilutions, dursban is good for a lot of bugs....termites on down.
Insect spray
I am not anti insecticide, just afreid i'll kill my lizards and butterflies.... i use safer's once in a while, have used flying insect spray a couple of times.
Dursban is very powerful stuff and has a long half life. I use natural pyrethrins, they are harmless to mammals and leave no residue. I also use diatomaceous earth or silicon dioxide derived from diatomaceous earth. I use this for everything from slug control to insect killer. The silicon dioxide can be mixed with the pyrethrins and sprayed. The particles are small enough to go through the sprayer. I always check for lacewing and lady bug larvae before spraying anything.
Arlene, as long as you don't get the above mentioned things on the lizards, it shouldn't hurt them. We have tree frogs and also lizards and I haven't found any dead ones. I move the daddy long legs before I spray and I've also been known to relocate butterfly larva.
ok. but I step on those daddy long legs:)
hate all spiders and snakes! especially the live ones:)
Owen
The daddy long legs are excellent bug eaters. Besides, their mouth parts are too small to bite a human with. I do step on Brown Recluse and Black Widows when they invade my space, but leave all the others alone. We have rat, black, ring neck and garden snakes as well as racers and I haven't seen a poisonous snake ever here in the yard.
i love daddy long legs, usually have tons around here. i see black snakes once in a while, had to rescue a huge one from the dogs a couple of years ago. they say if you have a black snake in your yard the rattlers will stay away. right now i am getting stink bugs (guess that is what they are) on brug seed pods, will they eat much?
