Has anyone ever inquired about the wholesale flats at LBJ? Seems everybody wants Angel's dream. I wonder if LBJ would be able to supply a flat in the spring - (1 flat= 18 3½" pots). If it was worth it I'd be willing to order the flat....
Wholesale flats??
i have wondered about that too. could work out well....
I'd love to get in on this if it works
It could be like a brug Co-op if the price was right.
I'd be in on that!!!
Same here!!!
what about shipping? I'd be interested too, but we just ran into a snag with shipping in the spring. If USPS still goes with irradiating the mail, then to get by that, you'd have to ship UPS and the cost would kill ya. thoughts?
tig, there is no way they can irradiate all the mail by spring is there? my friend, the supervisor in gvlle told me there is no way.
the government never moves that fast, and i personally think they would be silly to irradiate everything.
I heard they are not going to do the stuff that says SEEDS,or LIVE PLANTS,especially stuff that comes from a established company.
I wish we knew for sure, and if they only set it up in certain places, then where are those places? I don't know, no one has the same answer anytime you ask. That's why I want to get the things I 'have' to have now. But there's no way to get Angel's Dream before spring.
This leads me to ask how LBJ is planning to ship their plants?
I have a single ordered, but if you need someone to help so that you have enough people for the 18 plants, I'd be more than happy to go in with you on a flat of them. I have several friends around here that would love to get one as a gift.

there is always UPS, and there is talk of the PO making exceptions for Nurseries. But in a co-op, the whole thing is shipped to one house, safe so far. But if the person in charge of the co-op has to send out to us UPS, the cost is outrageous compared. Not to mention the extra trouble. The canna co-op was cancelled because of these concerns. The main problem is that right now we just don't know. I'm not trying to be a downer!! I promise. Just throwing thoughts out for people to think about. If it's simply that we mark our packages 'plants or seeds', then anything could get through like that. I really have faith that they will come up with a way to service us, the small trader. They just haven't said it yet.
Maybe we all should all right letteres to our state reps to let them know our concerns about this.If we don't let them know who ealse would tell them.
Pete
I have a nursery, complete with green house certificates to paste on the outside of the box!!! There is only one problem, some states won't let plants in without a phyto certificate.
I know Georgia doesn't have that problem, don't know other than Hawaii what states do. Poppy, can you get info??? I've written LBJ for prices, might as well get a flat of L'Amour too if they have them, right????

Hey, if you get all figured out, I would like to get in on this also. I hope it works out. :-)
I really have my doubts the irradiation of mail will ever materialize - except in a couple of target areas. Unless the anthrax threats continue or get worse the PO would never be able to spend that much money. The J.L. Hudson catalog has a little info about it but there's still nothing concrete. My concern is more with LBJ's prices. If there isn't a significant discount buying by flats... it might not be such a bargain with the added $3.50 shipping of each plant after it arrives. I'll see if I can get any info on the phyto certificates.
If this works out I would love to be in too.
Pete,
I did just what you are suggesting and had to laugh when I got my responses. They won't email you back with an answer to your questions, but will send you snail mail if you reply to their email with your home address. I thought how silly that is to mail a pamphlet from DC and possibly send each of us anthrax by doing so since their mail goes through the PO that was infected. I decided that they aren't going to give me any information other than what I already know. Maybe they don't have the answers. I wrote over a month ago, and maybe they can answer more questions now, but from Iowa......ehhhhh!!!

As you know Poppysue, both of those are on my list, so I want in too, if this materializes. I'm sur I could find a couple more to get my order back up. Pam
I agree with you poppy sue, that's the word i hear...besides, why would their irradiate priority boxes? it would probably be letters. would irradiation kill plants? now, to bring the cost down, maybe 2-3-4 kinds????
has anyone ever gotten good service from them??
I ordered plants from them over a year ago and I'm still waiting. I cancelled my order the other day and decided to go to Hodniks.
well, that says a lot. I've heard of several people having the same problems. Too bad Hodniks doesn't have the Angel Dream.
Were they the european hybrids that said "not available till?" or just regular brugs that no available after date was shown?
If there is room for another I would be love to be in on this also.
I just got an email from Hodniks and they will have a double pink in the spring. It's not available now.
All I can tell you is that I can't praise Hodniks enough. Every order I have gotten from them has been faster and in better condition than plants recieved from nurseries in the states. Native habitat would be my second favorite based on speed, but on size of plants, etc-Native Habitat wins first. Obviously, the choice is hard to make. I have heard that LebonJardinier is much faster when it comes to seeds though than the other two. Calalily, I sincerly think you will be very happy with your Hodniks order, but I must confess I have never ordered from them this time of year. I generally order from them in Feb,March...
I ordered seeds from LBJ 3 weeks ago and haven't heard a word.
Okay, well as always someone proves me wrong yet again. Thanks for your input Tig.
hehehe, I wish they would respond, I wanted those seeds.
It takes about that long to get seeds from them tiG. You should get them any day now.
One thing is for certain, LBJ has a very large and extensive offering in the states. Just wish more nurseries in the states had such a large offering, albeit I am fairly happy with my small collection of Brugmansia. Still, a double pink candida would be nice. I already have Tonny's arborea "Ida" which I think is going to outperform the other arborea I have seen from Vero. Just waiting and hoping I can cross it to my Vulcanicola "Roter Vulkan" if it ever blooms for me.
snow, did you get a confirmation of an order?? I really am not sure I need these seeds, I have over 200 seedlings at various heights from various places, and more seeds on the way!!! ack, no wonder we couldn't put up a Christmas tree. Sure will be glad to get my greenhouse next year!
Tig, You have mail.
thanks for the info snow. I promise if I hear from them soon or get my seeds, I'll be the first to post about it.
tiG,
Here is a German source of B. x candida "Angel Dream".

Tonny, I wish they shipped to us. I wouldn't be the only one here with one. I owe some of our members big time and nothing would make me happier than to give them a cutting of this! but :( they don't ship to us.
