Contest Awards

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

I finished the awards and have them ready to post tomorrow. They will go out by priority mail so our winners should have them soon. I hope you will post a picture of yourselves with it so we can all see our proud winners!

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

I didn't win. Do I need to post a photo of me crying?

Saint Petersburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I can post one of me and a dead burg...lol

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Hey, you all can post pictures and then no one would notice if I don't. I take horrible pictures and have been running around in my nightgown for a couple of weeks now. Well, heck, I haven't been running anyplace for a couple of weeks. Can I submit my hubby's picture in my place? He takes good pictures and doesn't have that chin to knee middle age spread. :-)

Shirley,
Sounds like you are feeling a little better!!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Gloria,

I'm feeling so much better and wondering why I didn't do this a long time ago. It will make my gardening so much more fun next year.

Everything Okay with you? Hope so..

Later....S

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Brugie. I take terrible pictures too. Do you feel up to a little trip with me someplace where we can hide. We'll hire actresses to take our place in the pictures.LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I think you have something there snowhermit. I am so large I'd take up the whole picture and doubt the prizes could cover it all up. Can't even get a closeup that would look good. I just don't take good pictures. Was that one of the rules of the game...picture with prizes? :-) I know--my hubby doesn't know how to use my camera and I can't take a pic. of myself. Think that would work as an excuse?

S.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I'm no skinny minny either Brugie. Now if I could hide my double chin.I just look at it this way. There's just more of me to love.I still like the actress idea. They would never know it wasn't us. Hehe :)

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

ROFLOL! Since I have never posted a picture if me that isn't at least 30 years old and have a cartoon pic on my home page....I can understand you shy types just fine! If you want to post a pic we would all love to see it, if not we will be happy to hear that you got them anyway!

Jim and Irish however should post thos pics mentioned above ASAP!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

We knew you'd understand Zany. If I get a brave moment I might surprise ya but I dunno.Waiting to see those pics from Irish and Jim.That will keep some of the heat off me and Brugie till I can find those actresses.Hehehehe! It's a hard feat to do from way up here in the boonies.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

What is the going rate on actresses anyway? I have a little saved up that I was going to spend on brugs, but in this case I might have to re-think the whole thing. Nah!! Can't give up my wants and wishes just to protect my pride. I guess I'll just have to say that each and every pound is bought and paid for and take me or leave me. :-) Hey, maybe that new hip they put in a couple of weeks ago weighed 50-100 pounds and that is my problem.

S.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

That is it Brugie! The new hip did it! Maybe I could go to the hospital and get to be a hippy too! I thought I was hip once but my kids told me I was just another square...could your Dr. fix that? Hmmmm,,,,

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Brugie, gotta see our winner.... you girls are so comforting, i am fighting the battle of the bulge, it's in my tummy, looks like i am carrying triplets in the ninth month. i only take a decent pic if i don't know it's being made... my whole life...please, brugie, i'll do it if you will....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene,

I've decided that no matter what I look like, I'm still me inside and can't change that. My hubby is happy with me, I'm happy, but would love to be thin, just isn't going to happen, so why not let people know who I really am. I don't want to get sick to get thin, so bring on the chocolate and Pepsi and I'll see if Jim will take a picture.

S.

PS. Guess I don't have to be thin and beautiful to grow brugs, right?

oh cool!! I love seeing your pictures. It's almost like meeting you. If I can swing a face-lift this week, I'll post mine.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Come on tiG, a facelift won't change who you are. Would love to see everyone I have come to know as friends. Maybe we need a forum just for getting to know one another with pictures.

S.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Maybe we should post one with our favorite brug, blooming or not, large or small,(not just the brugs)Then we can picture which brug anonymous refugee we are talking to!!!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

CC, good idea.... my JO has a few buds opening up, maybe standing next to it will make me look small...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene,

Has anyone decided yet if JO and CG are the same plant? Mine have different leaves and I have never seen the JO bloom yet so can't say what difference I might see in the blooms. I just don't have a lot of real estate to keep them all if they are the same. No problem outside, but in the house, it is a little crowded. I'll keep them all until next fall and hope I can see some difference as it is really hard for me to get rid of anything. Just a little excuse and I keep it all.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Brugie, LBJ lists them separately and says one's flower is 12 inches and the other 12". have more blooms coming on CG in the next couple of days but if memory serves me, they are really close. Actually, JO, CG and Dr Suess all are similar enough to me to really only need one of the three. I don't think JO and CG are exactly the same. did you see a difference in CG and Dr S??

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Well Brugie if you can do it then so will I. You're absolutely right. It's not whats on the outside that counts, it's what's on the inside.Whew! this is a relief. Don't have to make any more calls to Hollywood to hire two actresses. LOL

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

There is a hybridizer on the yahoo group who's been doing it for over 20 years. She's the one that says CG and JO are the same, they won't cross with each other, and there's more to back it up. Same history, came from same place.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Doesn't CG/JO smell really strong and Dr. S not have much fragrance? JO and CG have leaves that look alike, Dr. S is too small to tell.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Cala, she didn't say that Dr S was the same. But I think DrS is very similar. Similar enough to think about not keeping them all. However, they are both good breeders for different reasons, so I'll probably keep them both.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

well, i'll have open blooms on both tomorrow or the next day, will double check, i am not saying she is wrong, i just don't know that they are exactly the same. my theory is they are from the same cross, just that not all that are called JO and CG are from the very same seed. a little different. i thought JO was more fragrant than CG. and cala, Dr S i thought is pretty fragrant too. will have blooms on all within a day or two, will get someone to help me decide here. still all in all, they are all so similar...

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

OK JIM! The Ladies have decided to post the pics and Irish put his up....So show us that tear stained face of defeat!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I contacted Earl at VG some time ago and asked him about the difference between CG and Dr.S and he told me the only difference between the two of them is that Dr. S. ocassionally has a smooth edge on some of the leaves. Otherwise no difference. I notice that my JO has smooth leaves. I don't care that much about the leaves, just want different blooms. I have a lot of yellow right now and would like to even it up a bit. I personally think CG has more fragrance than Dr. S, but have heard people say that all the differences can be attributed to weather conditions and location. So, for what it's worth, my input......S

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Brugie, if your jutner orange has smooth leaves it isn't!!! at least i don't think so. mine has serrated leaves. i think i should write earl and ask him why if says if you are only going to have one that Dr. S is it??? i can't tell anyway, flower size varies some on all my brugs anyway, but i was sure bummed this summer when i realized almost everything in my yard was what i call frosty pink and "the yellow orange", thought i had 6 different kind of plants!!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene,
I got the idea that he likes Dr. Suess because of the fragrance and number of blooms. I have to say my CG has better fragrance and number of blooms and both were from first year cuttings. I thought my Dr. Suess was more upright and tree shaped with smaller Y's and CG had long limbs from the Y's. Guess you can tell that from the pictures you have seen. I liked the way Dr.S. grew, but maybe it will look differently this year. I'm hoping to get it trained to be quite tall with a nice canope, more for looks than anything else.
Arlene, if there is anything that I have that you don't, I'd be glad to share with you. I just thought by the way Eric talked that you had just about everything and had made some great new hybrids from them all. I'd be disappointed if I ended up with just pink and yellow when thinking I'd have more, too.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Brugie, It took me 3 hours to get up the courage to have DH take my picture, uh I mean pictures.Could'nt take just one in case it came out horrible so took many and picked out just one. Now where is Jim's tear stained face???????? Zany, we've got to go hunt down Georgiaredclay and snap a picture.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Snow.....I'm waiting for the awards to get here so I don't have to go through the pain of taking the pictures more than once. Yesterday was the first time in over two weeks that I had real clothes on since the surgery and I'm back to nightgowns again. Had to go to DR. and get staples taken out. So, when I get the awards, I'll get dressed, somewhat, and see if we can take a picture that isn't too scary to you all. I promise, I'll post something as soon as I can. :-(

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Don't worry Brugie, if everyone survived after my picture I'm sure they will yours too.The most important thing is for you to take it easy and heal. If you aren't up to a picture right now I'm sure everyone will understand until you do feel up to it.((((Brugie))))

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Oh NO NO NO!! We don't want to wait! We want to see the real Brugie .... resting with her leg elevated ... in her nighty! LOL! Just teasin ;o) Do ya all think we'd spend so much time on our puters if others could see us? Like those cameras - so you can talk and see the person at the same time? I don't think I'd even own a puter then!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I have one of those cameras hooked up to my computer to talk with a good friend. Only problem is that she moved and hasn't hooked her camera back up in over a year. So this one just sits here looking at me with a little green light on it and the lens closed. :-)
