Is it ever too late

Is it ever too late to pick the pod? Can I assume that if it hasn't fallen off it's not ready? I keep waiting for the peduncle (love that word) to change color but it's still green. The pod is soft but not mushy, all the way up. I'd like to open it up and take a peek

Liz: Marjory Harris picked her sanguinea pods with green seeds and the seeds are sprouting for her and me.

Liz,
Check crestedchick pod posting.

you know, some seeds will finish maturing off the vine, like tomatoes in the same family!! beans....don't you just stick them under a bed on paper, spread out and let them dry for seeds? i am wondering, i have a picked a few kinda early, (couldn't stand it) but in a couple of days they were brown.

checked out CCs post, i take it back! i know brugman says germination rate is better the darker the seed when picked.... but some seeds do not have to ripen on the pod...i had poppy seeds i picked early explode on my desk...

Gloria - I answered on the wrong forum - that yellowish stem is what I'm waiting for but it is still green - can feel the seeds inside.

Shall we wait together? I've got two pods that I can feel the seeds inside, but the penduncle is still green on it too. I'm getting so impatient to pick it.
