Seed etiquette

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

okay, need to ask this.
i've gotten probably 5 or so emails requesting seeds. what is the etiquette for distributing them?
i know its based on what i want to do, but what does everyone else do?
this is my first pod, therefore MY first seeds. i guess i look at it like the different classes of brugs, some you send for postage, others you dont.
i would love to share, and will, but obviously i cant send them all out.
will yall please let me know how to handle this? i hate asking questions like this because im afraid it sounds rude, but i really do need to know.
thanks
jen
i would love to share the seeds with others that are notorious for sharing their babies, be it seeds or cuttings. (you know who you are).
just if its a double, i want it back, lol

MsJen, tell us who they were!!! (just kidding). i would decide how many you want to start yourself and then trade or sase to people you know well first if there are any leftin case a really cool one turns out you can feel assured you can get cuttings. And to everyone else who wants seeds, there should be a lot more coming (but probably not of doubles). i have about 30-35 on CG/JO, 12 or so on a hybrid white, 12 or so on isabella, 5 monsters on X versi peachy/pink (big pods!), 12 or so on jean pasco, and 6-8 on frosty pinks, 8 or so on suavolens white. no daddy is known. i expect seeds in a couple of weeks.
if anyone wants to sase for brug seeds that i picked and did not mark, may have been picked too soon, email me, all go to the first email for them to handle as they wish.....
THE SEEDS HAVE BEEN SPOKEN FOR. THANKS

Mine had tons of seeds so I just sent to who ever wanted them, some people were kind enough to offer seeds in exchange. But yours will be more in demand ,I would offer them in 5 seed lots in trade for other rare seeds, make sure you save enough for yourself!!!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

and Jen, you don't have to give any out. They are your first. cuttings are so much easier to give out, and they are faster for people.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Yes, Jen, everyone i know won't mind if you keep every single one!!! course we will probably all want cutings some day...

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

gonna be real honest here, if I had seeds from a double cross, I'd probably be real selfish. but that's just me.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

tig, i probably would be too, only i am lazy and don't plan on starting lots of seeds. might not start any, let all my brug friends raise them....

Personally, I don't mind giving out any of my seeds...except the ones I want the most. Cuttings from seeds are easy enough. You can take 3 or so cuttings from each seedling after just a few months and still keep the rootball for yourself. Those of you working on pink doubles though, those seeds I would keep for meself and cross back to either another pink double or a double orange, etc. Best way to get a double in color is to cross back to a double already in color. Ecuador pink or Butterfly crossed to Double orange and then back to Double orange or to Double pink, etc. Course one can cross to a double white and then cross those seedlings as well.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

The only double I have right now is a dbl white that i got from MsJen.If I crossed that with a Insignus pink or Jutner orange what are my chances of getting another double?Come spring I plan on ordering a Herrenhauser Garten which I will be able to cross but I plan on getting mine all going in my greenhouse in Feb and if they flower I'd like to know which I should cross the dbl white with to get the best flower.

FSH, TX

Snowhermit, not very good at all. Now, if you had a double white x frosted pink seedling and crossed that to Double orange you would stand a very good chance of getting some doubles in color and many in white from what I hear. Herrenhauser Garten crossed to Ecuador pink or Butterfly-those seedlings could be crossed to each other or back to HG or any other double to get some doubles.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I do have a Frosty Pink from Arlene that I can cross the dbl. white to. Maybe I'll try that when they bloom. It will take longer but I'm patient. In the meantime I'll order some dbls come spring which I can cross directly to dbl white etc.Now I'm rambling. LOL

FSH, TX

Ahh, never fear-I ramble in that same direction. I have a few double oranges with blooms just starting wishing I had some double pinks to cross them to as seedpods generally form better on larger Brugmansia.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Eric, can't find a double pink here in the states (but nativehabitat is sending me their catalog) but I do have a line on the double yellow. Would that be a good candidate to cross with species or HHG?? Don't want to get it if not.

FSH, TX

Double yellow would be fine for doubles-its just that I want to work with darker peaches and pinks hence already having a double orange, a double pink or peach is my best bet. Heck, Native Habitats "Mercury" a Knightii x aurea cross would be wonderful to use to get doubles with as well if one were going for small petite doubles. Hope that helps somewhat Tig.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm hoping that one isn't too expensive, I'll know more when the catalog gets here, it's one I want for Christmas. Have you seen their new catalog?

FSH, TX

Tig,
No, I have not seen their new catalogue, but I do have a few copies of their older catalogues. Native Habitat is most assuredly one of my favorite companies. For that matter, I have seen a few of their hybrids listed in their new catalogue a few years back. Astounding hybrids if I do say so.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I'll let you know if it's time to get a new one. With that baby you should have an extra bib laying around to catch the drool if need be:)

FSH, TX

If it were I, I would get their mercury if nothing else, but then I am sure they have added much to their collection since the last time I saw their hybrids. Strange for me to actually want a white hybrid, but it is an aurea and it does have double genes from the Knightii. Speaking of which, I recently got my own Knightii so I will be crossing the Knightii to a yellow aurea and a white aurea....I know I am slow. If I had of made that cross when I first saw it I may have gotten lucky by now. Of course I love my Dr.Sues x Ecuador pink crosses as well. Crossing them all to aurea's this summer.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

What did you cross to get that lovely one your wife talked about looking like a pinwheel?

FSH, TX

Tig,
Dr.Sues x Ecuador pink-My best hybrids came out of that cross. so far....Arlene has one that looks superb as well that she posted from that same cross some time ago.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Ms Jen, you poor thing - what a dilemma having to decide. I hope you kept plenty for yourself. Good luck with them.
