picked the pod

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

i noticed today that the stem was starting to yellow and that the pod itself was getting softer, so i picked it.
when i opened it, lo and behold...seeds. but i also noticed that there was a lot of moisture inside. is that normal?
this was a cross of frosty pink and i think double white..that was the only one blooming at the time.
i counted the seeds..97.
i hope i didnt pick it too early.

Frosty pink x Double white "Species I presume?" Ahh, sounds like someone is going to get lucky with a merhfacht type pink or suaveolens type pink double with all these crosses. Can't wait to see some of these crosses in bloom next year. Sounds as if you picked the pod within reason Msjen. I have a Butterfly x Pink Aurea seedpod almost mature...bursting to pull it a bit early to get a few started early.

Ms Jen: Can I trade you some seeds? I have some other brug seeds that I got from Monika in Germany which are pretty cool. Email me if you're interested.

MsJen, were the seeds brown? i picked a pod this morning, they were still white with a little light brown in the center of most.....hoping for the best. that would sure be great to get doubles....

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

the unpeeled seed is mostly brown, with a tan color i guess where it was connected to the inside of the pod. there has got to me a more "right" way of describing this, lol
brugman, i dont have species, mine is the candida double white. i dont think those are the same, are they?

FSH, TX

Ahh, I only have the Candida species double white. Only time will tell, but I do think they are supposed to be different. If I grew more doubles besides the one white and the one orange double I might be better able to tell. I think Arlene grows a few different doubles though if memory serves me....Perhaps she can answer this for us

Jen,
Species and Double White are different....Species is a trumpet hanging out of a trumpet...sometimes it can be triple. http://www.logees.com/html_pages/Brugmansia/Images/BRUG_SPECIES.gif

Hi, everybody! I am new to Dave's garden this is my first posting. I have the brugs, too, and where oh where are the seeds? I have two golden colored ones, two pinks, two whites, one supposedly varigated leaves and my yellow-golden and pinks are beautiful (second year for them). Would love to get seeds but don't know where they are. The trumpets fall off and leave a "sleeve" i guess you could call it and then it falls off. Can anybody tell me what's what?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Hi Roz!! welcome to our madness. Most times you will have to pollenate your flowers with pollen from another brug, not the same one. Moths will do it, but not near often enough.

Ms Jen and Gloria I am in the Orange Grove area. Seeing that you were from Gulfport and Gloria from Biloxi makes my day. Our climate has got to be the same. I adore the Brugs and had no idea there were so many different kinds. Also I like the candlestick ( my grandmother called in candlelabra) but beside the hibiscus and roses none are more impressive or prettier or smell as sweet as the brugs.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

its even a smaller world..i live in orange grove also on john clark rd. youll have to come over some time.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Wow, Ms Jen and Gloria and I thought this was going to be a boring winter looks like I met some fine folks. Would love to see the seed pods and even try a seed Gloria you and Ms Jen are so very nice so glad to meet you. I'll have to wait for one of my kids or hubby for a ride to your place, Gloria, I have very bad eyesight and cannot drive, but I'll get there to see those seeds. I have been looking for those things every day for over a month now and I have torn apart nearly every part of the plant looking for seed. Now I know it just ain't there. Roz

Roz,
Jen has my telephone number for you..... give me a call and we'll talk.
