Hibiscus trionum, flowers just beginning to form in the center.
Flower Of An Hour, Venice Mallow (Hibiscus trionum)
This is one of those cases that the leaves looked nothing like what I saw in my field guide for this plant. Because of the red spot at the base of the leaves, I was wondering if it wasn't a mallow of some type, but couldn't narrow it down without help.
Once I got the plant identified, it was yanked from the ground. It was much easier to pull than the Common Mallow that freely grows around here.
