I while ago (around winter time) I kept seeing these black birds. They were flying in flocks of hundreds, often with some Eastern Starlings. I have no clue what this bird is. It was definitely big, like forearm length. ( I live in Southern NJ)

This black bird is a Common Grackle. They're common throughout North America. If you go down south, you'll see Great-tailed. If you go down around Louisiana, you'll see Boat-tailed.

These birds didn't.
And yes, their radiant colors aren't noticeable unless viewed closer up. They're quite fierce looking birds, and fun to photograph. I don't, however, appreciate the amount of bird food they consume.
