I am a novice birder, just starting to observe and identify my backyard birds. I am in Northern California.
I initially thought this was an American Robin but wasn't sure since the head is partially white, which doesn't match the pictures I have seen.
Insights would be appreciated :).

It is an American Robin. The condition is called leucism where patches of feathers are white. Here is an article that explains this.
