Zanthoxylum americanum

Common Prickly Ash, Northern Prickly Ash (Zanthoxylum americanum)
I believe this is an example of Zanthoxylum clava-herculis, due to the terminal panicles vs the small auxillary clusters of fruit of Zanthoxylum americanum. I can't say for certain it is Z. clava-herculis, but it doesn't resemble Z. americanum, which grows everywhere around me. Here is an example of how Z. americanum fruits and flowers.. Small clusters close to the thorns. I will try to get a better picture next time I'm out.
I don't do Dave's Garden much anymore because the site is so slow and harder to find plants. It used to be much faster. I use Garden.org instead now that is much faster. I am not really familiar with the Hercules-Club native to the deep South. Its compound leaves are 5 to 8 inches long with 7 to 19 leaflets. The separate male & female flowers are greenish in terminal cymes. The fruit should be a brown wrinkled capsule about 0.8 inches long. I think that plant is something else with red berries.Need to look at leaves, flowers, and if any thorns.
I'm not exactly sure what you are saying but I can say for certain the picture I posted is of Z. americanum. The picture you have posted here is not, and should not be posted as such. It definitely has the look of Zanthoxylum, but it isn't Z. americanum.
I agree, their database here seems to be overrun with garbage and it doesn't seem like anyone is doing much about it.
Also, please note that Morris Arboretum harbors 4 species of Zanthoxylum.. Only one grows wild around here. And it doesn't fruit like your picture. I'd put money on that one you have pictured being Z. simulans.
