CLOSED: Thailand birds

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

I photographed these two birds in Thailand a couple of weeks ago. They were in Chiang Mai. One looks like a house sparrow, but has a brown mark on the face I'm not familiar with.

I didn't have my long lens, so these are cropped quite a bit. Hopefully good enough for ID.

Your first bird looks to me like a Eurasian tree sparrow (Passer montanus).

I am looking into the other bird, the shape looks so familiar, but it's taking a little time to narrow it down.

I have to give up at this point, I need to get some desserts made for tomorrow. I tried. It bothers me that the overall shape seems familiar... maybe Bluebird-ish?? I looked through the list of Taiwan birds on Wikipedia, focusing on the Thrush family, but all that I looked at were clearly different.

I had fun trying, though. :)

Thanks much, Chilly. I appreciate the help and have at least a starting point of where to look.

Thanks, Resin. The DG links and Photos help a lot.

Forgot to add - your OMR is a female (grey back & head); most of the pics on the BirdFiles page are males (black back & head).

Ah, I disregarded that bird because of the color. It was driving me nuts.

Ah, thanks. Makes sense. I found what must be a female on a Thailand site. It looks like mine.
