Rain Lilies in zone 6b?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I need to know what to do with my Zephyranthes bulbs. Some are in a container, the rest are in the ground next to a pond. I know I need to dig them up, but do I keep them in a container for the winter, or do I dig them up and let them dry out? I hope somebody can help ASAP, since we're supposed to get down to 27 F by tomorrow night. Thanks!

Thanks, MaVie! I decided against letting them go dormant, at least not just yet. I potted them up in two quart pots, and placed them in the greenhouse for the winter, with the Agapanthus and Lycoris (new, these will go in a permanent garden spot next spring).

u're very welcome. please do not forget, plants need to go dormant - not to rest but to be able collect enough energy to produce nice showy flower buds, or produce bulbils - to increase it's specie. similar to people, if one does not get enough rest and sleep, the following day, it is so difficult to function normally. just my 2 cents. i stand corrected if i am wrong... ma vie

Yes, MaVie, you have a good point (for both plants and people, LOL!) These plants go semi-dormant in the summer, and then burst into flower when fall rains hit.

I should have been clearer in stating what I did with these bulbs. I didn't pull the bulbs up and let them dry out (it doesn't appear to be very good for them); instead I'll keep them potted up and in moderate temperatures for the winter, then plant them (pot and all) next spring when the danger of frost is past. That should closely mimic their natural environment, which would be a zone or two warmer than I am.
