Rail?? ID Please

I have never seen this bird . Is it some sort of rail? thanks The other small bird gives indication of size. is the small bird female brownheaded cowbird. I have never seen one alone without flock. thanks so much

We were pretty excited to see our first Green Heron. It was a surprise since it was on a power line.
