Water, too much or too little

I have 2 Hibiscus plants each growing in a large container. They are in full sun on the south side of my house. I am having a hard time figuring out how much to water them. Seems like if I water every 2-3 days the leaves begin to yellow but if I go longer the flower buds dry out and drop. Plants have plenty of flower buds and generally look healthy.
I live in th Phoenix area zone 9b with temps 100+
Any suggestions on how much to water?
