Sweet Potato Slips from Sandhill Preservation

Danbury, CT(Zone 6a)

I have ordered seed before from Sandhill, but never sweet potato slips. This year I ordered slips for the first time. There was a note that we may or may not get them depending on how the crop does. Anyway, I'm wondering around what time do they ship out the slips? Anyone else have ordering experience.

Just wondering because if I'm not getting any slips, I'd like to use that space to grow something else. I ordered slips from Baker Creek as well and received a refund and note today that they could not meet the demand.

Anyone getting slips from Sandhill this year?

Thanks,
Jen

i got my Okinawan purple sweet potatoes from baker creek this year, and the race has begun with them seeing who can reach the other side of the rows first, lol.

what i did was pre order them early in the year to reserve mine. (like some time in february), and they sent them on to me around april. Had to keep them indoors in pots at first because we were still having chilly nights though.

Sandhill is in the north. Seldom ship before June. It is a small operation. I have used them to get starts of sweet potato varieties that are not readily available. They have about the widest selection available anywhere. never had any problems, but I always order in late December.

Guess what? My sweet potato slips arrived today! Hooray! I received some extras, so will have to figure out where to put them. They looked perfectly healthy and no worse for wear from the journey.

Can anyone tell me who might sell slips to California?

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

Sandhill does. http://www.sandhillpreservation.com/pages/sweetpotato_catalog.html Mericlone shoulds be able to, but I can't get their web page up http://www.mericlone.com. Last ditch contact the Livingston Farmers Association. They don't sell slips but may refer you to one of their members who does. It is a California sweet potatoes growers group. California Agriculture Department prohibit the import of sweet potato plants from the south eastern US which eliminates most of on line vendors.
