I ran into this same problem about this time last year.
Is this a juvenile Curve-billed Thrasher? Adults are common in my yard but this picture was taken yesterday and it seems a little early for fledglings
Or is this a Bendire's Thrasher? Rare but not impossible in this area.
CLOSED: Which Thrasher?
Very worn plumage, so definitely an adult. The rather pale iris supports Bendire's, but I'd not like to commit myself 100% :-)

Local Birders confirm that Curved-Bill do fledge as early beginning of May here.
Still an adult; even a May fledgeling wouldn't get that worn by late May, those are tatty year-old feathers ;-)
