Need advice on a plum tree

Winnsboro, TX(Zone 8a)

I know this is the wrong time to move a tree but a neighbor was taking out a plum tree and asked me if I wanted it. Of course I said yes and moved it to my garden. I'm looking for any advice on making sure it survives the move.

Just make sure the roots are secure in the ground and it is not planted deeper than it was ,
Too loose ground and air on the roots or planting moved trees too deep are common mistakes ,,
Plum trees are tough ,, I have a few here ,,

Thanks. Sorry it took so long to reply. I did my best to make sure there were no air pockets and the tree is planted at the same depth as it was. Should I fertilize it or just leave it alone and make sure it has enough water?

I would not fertilize the tree ,,Average water ,,

I don't think fertilizer would hurt the tree , Especially when or as it starts it's next growth cycle .
That is up to you , I put a bit of composted manure around mine in the early spring and few cups in the fall ,,,
With the Giant Red Plum , I get tons of plums that way ,, The purple and other , not as many ,, of course the Birds and squirrels get most anyway .

Do not fertilize now. Fertilize next year.

Thanks. I'm going to let it do it's thing and just keep it watered for now :)

You could water it with a root stimulant, you should be able to find a bottle at your garden center. I would dilute it down in a sprinkling can or bucket and apply it every 2 weeks.

Good idea about the root stimulant. I'll pop over to the garden center tomorrow and get some
