Does anyone here at Dave's grow them? My green tree collards are constantly trying to bloom. Every week I am removing blooms. I have read and John Kholer says they rarely bloom. They are only 4 feet tall so I don't want them to bloom. I want them to grow taller and the main stem to get larger. My purple ones are not blooming but are not growing as fast as the green. Does anyone have any suggestions? The second picture is the purple tree collard.
Tree Collards
You may gotten a bad batch. The California tree collard is apparently a hybrid, that does not come true from seed. They are normally grown from cuttings. The Walking Stick cabbage/ Jersey Kale in comparison does grow true from seed. Evironmental conditions may trigger a tree collard to seed, the green more so than the purple. However the seed will not be true and may well revert to a more seedy type.
All of the tree collards are from cuttings that I purchase october of last year. It's believed that the tree collard originally came from Africa. This blog says they have reported them growing to 11 feet. They are talking about the purple one.

I found this site thats says the green variety will not grow very tall the first year, although I think 4 feet is pretty tall. I will continue to remove the flower spikes and hope for a big flush in the fall.
