I'm trying to identify the following bird. I can't find it in any of the online bird directories for North America. This bird is in Houston, TX and has very little fear of people. I suspect it is an escaped pet. It is approximately 5 inches long. The beak is not as steep or short as a finch.
Mystery Bird - Escapee?
The coloring almost looks like a male tanager, an immature Summer.

Do you have any photos that show the bill clearly?
If it doesn't seem afraid of humans, I wonder if it hit a window or is ill. Wild, native birds are approachable in those cases. If it is still there after a couple of hours, I'd try to get a hold of a wildlife rehabilitator.
Ditto to Summer Tanager, immature male.

Yes, that is him exactly! Immature Male Summer Tanager.
He sat there for 30 minutes or so pretty close to a sidewalk with regular traffic. He flew in from the parking lot direction, but our speculation is that he ran into the large glass front of the building and became disoriented and that I saw the last second or two of his controlled crash.
If he was stunned, then that would explain his ignoring of the people.
Thanks for the ID; I had never seen one before.
