Looks to me to be a Japanese sparrow hawk. Can anyone confirm positively with this one picture?
thank you, Kawasemi
CLOSED: A sparrow hawk
Grey-faced Buzzard Butastur indicus - note the white throat streak and strongly barred breast (compare e.g. here: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2398/2250084756_7ef090bef1.jpg )

Thanks so much, Resin. I heard they fly through here in large groups in October, (but declining), on their way south, and birders go out to see them at certain locations, but I've never gone. I should have noticed the (diagnostic) features you mentioned, and the flat wings. Anyway, it is fun learning.
much appreciated, Kawasemi
