CLOSED: Bunting and Tanager - High Island, Texas

Willis, TX(Zone 8b)

These were photographed yesterday at the Audubon bird sanctuary at High Island, Texas.

1. Tanager - Summer, I think. Is this a female or does the tinge of red indicate a first spring male? Usually when I see first spring males, they have a lot more red. This is the only shot I got. It zipped in and out really fast.

2. Bunting - I think either Indigo or Blue Bunting?

I am going to pass on the Tanager, but I do believe your Bunting is an Indigo. I looked at Blue Buntings and the bill looks larger and slightly curved. I hope another will give their input. :)

Yep, Summer Tanager and Indigo Bunting.

Thanks much for the info! I will just call the tanager a female since I'm pretty sure it is not a first spring male.
