Schefflera actinophylla, and it has a number of common names: Umbrella Tree/Plant, Brassaia, Octopus tree, Ivy Palm, schefflera.

Arua, Uganda(Zone 11)

Very nice... does it grow fast from seed??

Yes, and you'll find it will probably become a weed where you are. I have several but grew them from cuttings. They're very easy. Our long hot dry season restricts seedling growth, although they're a native here. They naturally grow in our monsoon forests, my place is in savanna woodland. On the east coast where they can get some rain all year round, even in their dry season, they're rampant (but natives also).

By the way, I transplanted one of my Pandanus tectorius recently, over 2 metres tall. and it still seems to be doing okay.

Ok maybe I will look for seeds or a plant in Kampala. Good to know about the Pandanus. IWe have now had the first rains of the season. They have been good and heavy. I was thinking of transplanting it but I had to fly back to the UK at short notice so I will have to see what the weather is like when I return. I think I need to do it when it is cloudy and wet then I stand a good chance of success.

Thanks for your answers!
