Containers

Can anyone help me please? I wish to purchase some drift roses and plant them in a container. What type of container would be best and what potting mixture should be used? I live in Los Angeles County, California. The San Fernando Valley to be exact, and it gets very hot here in the summer, upwards of 100 degrees. I have a south facing apartment and would like to have the container in the little yard in front of my apartment. The plant would be in full sun practically all day.
