Just Beautiful!!! :-) This Iris Looks Much older though than 1979..as its form looks to slender.. and also to transclucent also i personally feel to be wild west by Ghio, as i think its more of an opaque light solid chocolate color.this one too beautiful. I'll try to research for You to find the Correct Cultivar. Whatever it is.. it is One of the Most Beautiful Cultivars i've ever seen. Leave it up here for now and when we can find what it is ill contact You and See if You Agree and we can then discuss moving it. In Friendship and Respect for Mutaul love of Preserving Beautiful old heirloom historic irises and plants. Sandra.

Hi..I Personally Believe this Beautiful Iris to be 'STATEN ISLAND' BY Kennith Smith of Staten Island, New York 1945. The Main reason is it is one of the few Variegatas that has a lighter transluscent ring of color on the edge of Falls. I also understand it to have more of an orange cast in sunlight often as yours does. Let me know if You Agree. Respectfully, Sandra.

Sandra thanks so much for your efforts. I believe you are right about this photo. It seems to have gotten mislabelled. Irises romp and labels get pulled up, so it's easily done, also collating pictures to their identity can be tricky. I also think you may be right in its true identity, I'll try to read a bit more to make sure I don't make another mistake.

Hi, Sandra. I'm sure this is an older cultivar because of it's elegant tall thin form. We seem to have gotten much more plump and ruffly over time. However, 'Staten Island' is rimmed in gold and this one is not. I do think it is of the Variegata style as is Staten Island. 'City of Lincoln' is similar, but I'm not completely sure of that. By the way, I don't own this iris. I was simply trying to fill in the record for forgotten plants. I found the picture on Wikimedia, this time of year, I'm doubting that even if I can communicate with the Russian photographer about the issue, they won't be able to go check with the garden until Spring. I so hope we can find its identity. Historic preservation is a passion of mine. In my mind, although we are not alone, it is a great tragedy that so many lovely old plants have become extinct.

Kool..yes City of Lincoln is Also Quite Similar..im not 100% sure either have the orange enough tinge to be the same as Your photo..but it's hard to tell as lighting and time of day often plays a large role.and i often have ones look much more orange tinge and glowing transluscent at sunset. I think it is Either 'Staten Island' or 'City of Linclon' however. we will both keep researching so we make sure it eventually get moved to the perfect spot for its beauty to be enjoyed :)

Yes i Think You Are Right..I think 'City of Lincoln' is the Perfect Candidate :-) I just recieved it from Blue J iris last year and so hoping it blooms for me in another 8 weeks and ill post my pics of it on here for comparrison..Or let me know if You feel Confident enough before then that this is 'City of Lincoln', and ill see if we can get them to move it for You. Respectfully. Sandra.
