Temporary paralysis

Saluda, SC(Zone 8a)

I have 8 purebred chicks (Meyers Hatchery) that were hatched 10/01. They are growing beautifully, apparently thriving.

The strangest thing happened this morning.

When I tended them at 8am everyone was contentedly chirping, feeding and frolicking.

Suddenly I heard the loud chipping of 1 who seemed distressed, I realized she was lying in the corner of the cage, unable to move, her head down and unable to be raised. I thought she was dying.

Took her out of cage and put into a box ( I figured, to let her die).

Surprisingly, after a couple of hours she seemed to begin to recover. Now she is back in the cage acting perfectly normal.

Can anybody give a clue as to what might have been wrong.

She may have been at the bottom of the pile too long, no visible signs of any damages? They live a long time just waiting to die, had one with a broken neck living happy for 2weeks before I had no time to pamper her...have seen them die quicker of heat exhaustion and oxygen lack..

kittriana, thanks for commenting. With 8 chicks I kind'a doubt she was on the bottom of a pile, she just started chirping loudly and could not move, her neck did seem broken. She recovered and now a full day later, you would never know anything had happened to her.

Cricked neck possible, know that feeling!

I have had chicks have a seizure and seem paralyzed then recover completely... I have no clue.

Read up on wry neck, I had one that would seem fine for a few days then its neck would be bent, then fine again. Not saying that's what it is or was, hoping this does not happen again to the chick.
