Hodniks Is Here!!!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

The order came in from Hodniks.I couldn't be more pleased with the plants.Starting from the left - Maya,Culebra,Butterfly,Desiree,Rosabella,Rotor Vulcan, and Pink Beauty. The leaves all fell off but other than that they are in excellent condition, and they only took a week to get here!!(shipped on the 5th)Also some of the shoots coming off the cuttings have roots so I can cut them off and end up with MORE plants. The only thing that would make me happier is if I could read french so I know what the paper work says and if they had slipped a Angels Dream in there but no Angels Dream and French is way over my head!!!

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Where did you find the great selection on Hodnik's website?
I know they are there but can never find them.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

crestedchick they look great - did they come in the colorful shredded paper? Are you planning on sleeping with them by the way??? Is that your bedspread? LOL

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

did you get the same ones I did? cause maybe there's already a trade there;)

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

Wow!!!! Crestedchik, what a nice bunch of plants. Makes that sorry specimen I got from Wayside Gardens a year ago really shameful. I didn't know anyone would send something that nice.

Hodniks is my favorite Brugmansia place. I posted a list somewhere in this forum of the Brugmansia they carry in English and in French. Looks like your off to a great hybridizing start with those hybrids. Congrats!!! I see several plants on the far right hybrid already Those are all suckers with roots are they not?

makes me wish I'd ordered more.

FSH, TX

All I can say is Hodniks has given me faster and much healthier plant from overseas than many of our companies in the states. They have always arrived well packed and in excellent condition.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Me too tiG!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

well poppy, if yours have extras, and we didn't order the same thing, maybe we can work something out;)

Tig,
I think with with the coming of spring we can only dream of the great trades and hybrids that are going to be happening in this forum. Especially with all the new hybridizers fooling around with the pollen. I think Calalilly and Arlene alone have pollinated enough Brumansia to supply the whole neighborhood with seedlings.
Heres to a great new year and many more beautiful and fragrant Brugmansia created from our members.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

isn't it going to be great!!!!!! Even if I have to trade via UPS, for brugs it will be worth it:) I only have a few more 'gotta have's' but even if I never get another, I will be happy, just pollenating away, dreaming of whatever comes. Hoping to supply my entire town with babies come spring.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I have some seeds from LBJ that I will be starting this winter. I hope they will give me something different to grow for next summer.
B.versicolor Peach x B. hybrid Butterfly
B. x candida Ursuline x B.vers. Australie
B. x candida Ursuline x B. vers. Cuba
It will be a surprise as to what I get from these. Can't wait to see.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Liz ,yes ,they came in what must be shredded french magazines, very colorful and yes I'm going to have them upstairs, just so I can keep an eye on them, but sleeping with them might just push it too far!! Thats an old bed spread I keep on the couch so the dogs don't wreck it.tiG,I had ordered the same ones as you, although your original order was for Quinde(?) but they were sold out of it.So you told me to get butterfly for you since the last time you tried to get it there was a problem.I am sooo happy we did this!!Can't wait till we can get more!!OPPS ,where am I going to put more.Guess I'll have to put more pressure on for a greenhouse.Already shopping for larger pots.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

I've been looking for larger pots too. I thought I might get lucky when wal-mart had marked all the garden stuff down on clearence. Everything BUT the big pots. I drove all the way out there for them and they still had full price on all of them. I left empty handed & quite disappointed. With my luck they probably marked them down the next day - LOL!!

tiG - I got the Pink Beauty, Ocre, and Roter Vulcan. I can't wait till they get here. I'd love to share. If they aren't split-able now maybe we can share in the spring.

Snowhermie - I have high hopes for those seeds. It's killing me not to start them NOW. Just think ya'll - I only managed to squeek 3 flowers from my brugs this year. Now I've gone whole hog and want them all. Someone better stop me - you've created a monster!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

oh Poppysue, if you have an extra of that Pink Beauty, I have things you didn't get:) But do I really need another brug??
Did I really say that outloud?? LOL!!!! OF COURSE I DO!!!

FSH, TX

Versicolor peach x Butterfly would be my favorite from those seedlings. Can't wait to see them if you get a lucky one out of that batch Snowhermit. Keep us posted!!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Tig,I thought you had a pink beauty,Mine has a few shoots on it so I'll send you one of mine.I owe you anyhow,Your always thinking of me!!!CC

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

really??? oh cool!!!!!!! but you don't owe me, never:)

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7b)

Can I have the link to Hodniks, please, please? I broke down and ordered a couple I really wanted from Vicki Harding the first of this year and she still hasn't shipped them yet. It seems that her company is running into one problem after another and finally(last week), I received an email from her(after all of my inquiries about the plants had been ignored) saying it would now be late spring before she can do anymore shipping. I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed some new varieties before then, lol. Thanks for any help you can give,
Jackie

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Will do Brugmansia.Poppysue, I know what you mean. It's killing me too not to start them right now but I have to wait until end of Dec. so they will have a good start in the greenhouse when I start the heat up out there the end of Feb.I'll start them in the house and put them in GH before they get too tall and give them a jump ahead of mother nature. We have to wait till after Memorial Day to put anything in the ground here.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Jackie here's the Hodnik link http://www.hodnik.com There isn't much on the web page but you can write and ask for their brugmansia list. I have it on MS word if you'd like me to forward it to you. tiG also pasted a list on this thread http://davesgarden.com/showthread/138389.html I've got their list on an Excel spreadsheet too and it seems to have many more listed - but I'd imagine that a lot of them aren't available.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

P.S., I added Hodnicks to the Garden Watchdog. I had some problems getting Google to translate the page, so I'm sure I've butchered their mailing address - if you know how it should read, or have more info, please email me and I'll correct it ASAP. Thanks!!!

CC,
Type the french paperwork in here and have it translated to english.

I am lucky for you with all these new Brugs. These look very healthy and vigorous and I guess, that you are right by cutting them in halves to make more plants out of them : )

I hope it work ... I use it, when I read and answering posts in the German and French Brugforum at Yahoo. Works for me ... I didn`t know, what they said in there, but for every post I translate, I come to understand more and more *lol* Wish I could type Gommers conversation in there too *lol* He phoned this afternoon about my orders and because he also started having this as a hobby he had plenty of advise to a newbe in the trade as me *lol*

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

oh Tonny, I'm so jealous!! You get to order from Gommers!!!
the hybridizers here are just going to have to get going on something like what you lucky ones over there have!!!

Tonny: thanks for that link. I'm going to type more of Monika's book in there.

tiG, LBJ has some of them. Off cause, if they buy the hybrids released this year, they can first start to sell of them - due to postentry quarintain (PQ) - in year 2004 evidently, but they have already such hybrids as Maya, Herrnhaüser, flava, flava lillac and many others, so I hope you not feel entirely lost.

When I start selling from my website, I will see however if other American hybridizers are interested in the new German and Dutch hybrids, but in this instance, the plants will not be releasen for sale or for hybridizing untill 2004 (PQ). The worst is, that even if I mail some personally they are submitted to the same rules : (

Seeds is easier off. The must also be certified, but if the US inspector find them disease free, these are released immeditedly to the receiver : ) Plants of the imported seeds are not restricted and can both be hybridized with and sold, when these are grown out, so seeds are much quicker to get over than plants.

However much easier this may be I still think that we are about to be drowned in paperwork and useless bero-crazy *lol*

Did I spell that wrong? *lol* ... No, it is not ... its crazy, because our exchanges on an international level is becoming difficult and because so many smaller nurseries already turned the key due to this one : (

As you can hear, I just got mail no. 3 from Pam Waterworth.

CC, well, thats great to type Monikas book into the translater : ) Have you tried it yet? How was the result?

FSH, TX

I would of course prefer seeds only if I could get the exact cross I was wanting. I would think 100-200 seeds though of any cross as well would be needed.
