September BLOOMS!

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

The recent rains have showered our gardens with some much needed love. Now let's see those blooms!

I've got a mistflower, coral nymph salvia, and pitcher sage getting ready to go wild!

Lookin' good, Becky!

The passiflora foetida is finally blooming. Love the soft pink blooms. It was covered in bees this morning, too.

The frostweed is also starting to bloom. Love this plant!

I didn't know I still had some frogfruit in this bed, but it's showing it's little white flowers as well.

Liatris Mucronata has really taken off since the rains last week.

I have a few things that are handling the heat and dry this month. My variegated canna blooms positively glow, and I don't like orange usually.
My weeping bottlebrush is slowly recovering from the terrible ice storm we had late this year. It just might make it if we don't have another.
One of my transplanted Rudbeckia Maximus peeking out of an eggplant.
This is a new crepe, it is supposed to be a red, but the blooms turn pink. I may give it away even though that black foliage is gorgeous.
Ok, my brain just went Psfffffft. I got this from Kitt last year at our RU. Crud, I hate getting old.

Hummingbird migration is in full swing. Thousands are visiting my gardens and draining my feeders, to the tune of 2 gallons a day.

Pa. I am surrounded by ACRES of goldenrod. Sumacs seeding out, and maples turning and I will try to get more pix as I lost my old ones when I got the new phone. asclepias Syriaca pods drying and splitting. 39 of those. Always the minions.

I think Goldenrod is the Pa state color, but the dark purples/blues aren't far behind.

I have an anole! I am so excited! We had a shower on Sunday and I took advantage of a lull to snap one of my orb spiders.

while I took the first seeds I have ever gotten from my apparently dying Carolina Jessamine, (yay for seeds, hoping it will come back next spring), I planted 4 or 5 Spider Lilies this spring courtesy of a trade from a DG member. One has a smaller bloom than I have ever seen on a spider lily, but it is indeed a bloom! If I had watered that bed more I think it might be bigger, but the water drains off due to a grade issue... It is a flower.

seems to me my spider lily at my old house didn't come up for a couple of years then suddenly appeared. Maybe the other 4 will sprout next year?

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Really pretty all! My experience with spider lillies, or surprise lillies is they bloom reliably every year unless they are moved. I divided all mine last summer and no blooms until over a year later -- they are finally blooming for me now. But maybe you can trick them by moving them right before they lay dormant (after bloom and straps fade).

Drthor is there anything you can't grow? I swear you have the greenest thumb of anyone I know! 😄👍🌱

Yes, I CANNOT grow PEAS!!!!
Happy gardening !

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Lol so there is something ;) Bet you will the most amazing peas sooner or later!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

Its probably because her dirts too rich for peas, chuckl,

Irving, TX(Zone 8a)

I cannot grow peas ... but today I discovered that my house is in the migration path of the monarchs. I just couldn't believe when hundreds of monarch butterflies flew across my house today. We are normally never home at this time of the year and I never knew about this.
Sooooo amazing !

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

That is amazing drthor, I've been seeing a lot also but nothing close to hundreds!

I'm seeing a few monarchs and a few tiger swallowtail butterflies in my flowers out here.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I gotten so many butterflies this year that it looks like leaves are falling, they are everywhere. Part of the reason I notice them is Boomer, the 80lb puppy loves to watch them too. It's fun to watch him trot thru the pasture watching them fly. If they land on something he's not sure what to do so he either follows another one or sits down to watch it. He tilts his head like" what was God thinking?"

(Becky), Lipan, TX(Zone 7b)

Love it, love the butterflies.. not too many out here yet, a few here and there.. I remember a year like that where the butterflies were literally dripping off a certain tree.. That was at least 5 years ago and I have never seen anything like it since.
