Hi,
A lovely DGer from Texas just sent me a couple small Crinum bulbs, with a few leaves on top. I'm hoping you can advise me on care. My garden is mostly about zone 7, and effectively a zone 8 in one small bed, up against the south side of the house. I potted the bulbs when they came; should I try to keep them actively growing through winter? Or at least green, inside? Or sink them in the zone 8 area. let them freeze the tops in late October and come back in April?
I'd be grateful for advice!
Crinum newbie visiting you from Maryland
The safest and easier thing would be to keep them in the pots in house until spring. If you want to live on the danger side, bury the pots in your 8 bed below the freeze line and mulch well.
Worst to worst, they don't make it, let me know, and I'll send you a collection starter in the spring.
Larry
Thanks, Larry, I'll keep them inside.
Was wonderin what crinums were sent... zone 8 in Tx pretty much has to baby them too... but some are tuffer than others.
'some Ellen B and some pink and white' is all I know. So I may have one of each, as I have two bulbs
Elllen Bosanquets isnt a stable color chuckl, but is prolific and pretty tuff. Pink n white I don know, prob same. Where you are its a houseplant in winter and has no problems with forcing. Loves 100*days in sandy damp land too...ought to check out the Oxbloods...
thanks kittriana
