Hi! I just moved to Southwest Florida and my friend found this guy in the swampy area in his backyard. I'd say he's about a foot and a half tall. Someone suggested he might be a Little Blue Heron, but it doesn't seem to be the same given the pictures I've seen of the L.B. Heron. Thanks for your help!

Sorry, nope - Bittern is more uniformly buffy-brown, it doesn't have that contrast between the red-brown neck and the purple-green back.

I don't think green herons are a foot and a half tall. I'll stick with the Bittern.
That's a Green Heron.
They are more commonly seen in a horizontal & downward-looking posture on branches, prop roots etc. overhanging water.
