I had this guy in captivity for about 3 days until I could get a camera, and alas the the camera couldn't focus on him very well! I've seen it sitting suspended in it's webs and when I knocked it off of the table it could catch its own fall shooting silk from its abdomen. I really thought this was just some spider at first and I had damaged his legs when I swat him off of me, but it certainly looks like he is meant to have four legs.
CLOSED: Four legged webspinner ID
This is a crab spider (family Thomisidae) and I can assure you that it bonce had eight legs before meeting with some misadventure - see http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/30581794 for an intact specimen. These spiders are ambush hunters that simply lay in wait (often in flowers) for something to get close enough to grab; they do not spin a capture web.
