Found this feather next to my rabbit hutch. Trying to figure out if its a hawk or an owl, I know its a long shot but Im just trying to figure out who it is. Thanks!

Ok since neither of my dogs have been picked off I looked at owls. Barred owl is what Im thinking

What texture does it have? Softly 'fluffy', or hard and smooth?

Hard and smooth

Thanks! In that case, a hawk of some sort, perhaps Red-tailed.

Yep, as you'll guess now, owl feathers are uniquely soft and fluffy ;-)

I wonder if weathering could make an owl feather hard and smooth? Because, that feather looks most like the barred owl feather on this website ...

Maybe it's my imagination, but it also looks like I can see the "comb" edges that would be on owl feathers.

Interesting question!

Thanks for finding the "feather atlas". I hadn't seen it before & it looks like it will be useful
