Update on Tonny-Surrow order

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

The order arrived, today, from Surrow Seeds.I am very well pleased with both the service and the product.I had ordered 3 Arborea cuttings and some Arborea seed. The cuttings were approximately one foot long and about an inch thick at the butt.Needless to say,the 3 cuttings quickly turned into 6
and were planted.
Eric recently described the true Arborea seed as being
much larger than the seed we normally see.He was so right.I measured several of these and they are all 1/2 inch long or slightly more.
I will be planting these this week.If I get decent germination and the cuttings all make it,I will offer the extras first to my trading partners and then,as supply permits,to the rest of the forum.I will post when it's time to get on the list.

Cuttings would be the prefered method with that hybrid of Tonny's as seedlings don't typically breed true. Best to start with the best and use that for breeding in my oppinion.

Brugman,I thought these Arborea cuttings were the original
Arborea.Sort of an "Arborea Species".At any rate this should be some interesting stuff to play with.He advertises both cuttings and seed as "true arborea".

I was just wondering the same thing. If I didnt' ask for his hybrid Ida, I probably got the true arborea, right? That's really what I was wanting.

Ida is a true arborea. If one uses two wild arborea's and crosses them to each other no other species is involved hence it is still a true arborea. Similarly, if one takes arborea seeds and crosses the seedlings to each other an no sanguinea, flava, or vulcanicola pollen is used one still gets arborea seedlings. Seedlings do vary though with any cross whether it is in the wild or in ones own back yard.

oh cool!! thanks for clearing that up. Still glad I got cuttings and seeds, always wonder what it going to come from the seeds.

Tig,
I like seeds as well, but I prefer at least 100 of any cross to help increase my chances of getting a good one.
