Question re: Chickens & sunlight

Fowlerville, MI(Zone 5b)

My large chicken coop is under a large, deep, lean-to on our farm, that faces the north. The coop only has one window that is in the door that faces the east, but it's about 40 feet from the east side of the lean-to.

My question is, because there is no direct sunlight entering the coop, would a full spectrum or plant light be of any help to my chickens, to keep them laying? I can put it on a timer to make sure they get the amount/hours of sunlight they need. Or would this not make any difference? If it would help, so plant/sun lights come in a LED??

Thanks for any input you can give! :)

I found that any type of light on a timer works to keep them laying

Well I haven't been doing chickens for a long time but I don't think I have forgotten everything. I tend to agree with Green (Donna) Light is critical to laying but natural or artifical light should work. I believe its recommended fifteen hours of light min and sixteen hours should work well. Hay
