CLOSED: Rather Large Wasp like creature!

I found this large chap on the floor yesterday during my daily commute from work. Unfortunately he semed rather lifeless and I didnt think i could save him. I have no idea what he was, but he was approximately the size of a fifty pence piece. Any ideas?

Looks like a large horse fly in the genus Tabanus -
